Capilano University - Student Housing

As an otherwise happy student of Capilano University, student housing has deeply damaged my faith in my institution, as it fails to operate under the principal's it set forth by CAPU in class and in it's media.1. Management does not care about the wellbeing of students/employees and disregards the enforcement of rules whenever possible. Do not surprised if your concerns are dismissed by management, or if they fail to get back to you regarding an issue. Simply pack up and leave. It will be a better use of your time.2. Food is frequently so bad that it is accepted by teachers as a valid reason for missing class. (Not hyperbole.)3. Walls are unfit for housing, reminiscent of an elementary school's construction. Conversations are easily heard from multiple units away.

Great place to stay. The food could be a bit better.

The residence itself is okay. The food is horrible. It is the second night in a row that I have been served uncooked chicken and some of my friends have gotten food poisoning. Even employees here know about the quality of the food by telling us some days to not eat the fries because the potato’s are rotten

Spent first year here in 2018/19. Other than the bread and oatmeal selection, the food is terrible with little to no variety whatsoever. Go to the market down the road if you want a wide selection of fresh quality food (albeit pricy, it’s worth the bills compared to what you’re left with here. Trust me!) Room walls are paper thin so you can hear every conversation next door clear as a bell. Also the bathrooms and showers are downright greasy. Place is in desperate need of a reno. Only good thing is that you get to meet people and make new lifelong friends. Your best bet is to find a basement suite or split rent on a house with roommates until the on-campus residence is built.

I used to work at Canadian International College, who was the original occupant of these properties back in the early 1990s. It was an international school for Japanese college students. After reading some of the reviews, it's hard to see that this place has become so dilapidated...

Residence is a place to stay, be sure to read the reviews before you come here. The building shows signs of neglect, toilet paper is thinner than you can imagine, the walls are thin, the food is mediocre and the buildings are way too hot in the warmer months.The meal plan requires you to spend all of your funds or they will be taken from you at the end of the semester. Majority of your funds will have to be spent at Chartwells (the cafeteria) they cater to old folks homes and prisons. If you are a student who has late classes, the cafeteria closes at 7:30PM on weekends and you will be SOL. If you are a student who is most often at campus you only have $300 to spend there a semester, this money goes quick and to eat at campus you will have to top up your account.(Pay more money)No smoking pot on residence, you will be harassed if you do. (Unlike every major university in Canada, where a spot is provided for this, not very progressive for an organization that likes to appear this way) Management is more concerned about this than the upkeep of the bathrooms and buildings. Tobacco smoking is allowed.Management and security are friendly, and you can meet some great friends here. Also, hot water doesn't ever run out, thats about all there is to say positively about this place.If you haven't decided on a university yet, please consider where you will be staying your first year, the residence at Capilano University doesn't hold up compared to any other University in Canada.If you are easy going and are expecting the bare minimum this place will work for you, but don't expect much.

First off, extremely thin walls and ceilings. Friday nights will be the worst if you have partyers next door. Constant thumping from above and regular talking will drive you mad.The rooms don’t have heat control, no ventilation for hallways or the common room, the bathrooms are just, faulty in general, the showers are all badly unique and desperately need to be brought to the 21st century.The cafeteria food is either bland or bitter. I find myself bringing in cereal because the only other higher quality food I enjoy in there is the toast.I’m only here because it’s cheaper, and now I see why. Highly overpriced, not worth the tuition amount. This place is stuck in the 90s if not further.

If this is your only option then its fine. But if you have any other option, go with it. Food is bad and overpriced, walls feel like there is just a curtain between you and your neighbors. Rooms are dilapidated, you don't get to control your heating so be prepared to either be cold or hot. Drinking games are banned" (everyone still plays them anyway)
