Bimini's Pub & Lounge

What happened to this place? Zero atmosphere, ridiculously priced drinks, and poor service. It's been stripped of any character it had and appears the locals have gone elsewhere. When a local neighborhood bar loses it's locals, it's destined to fail. A real shame for such a staple bar in the heart of Kitsilano.

My friends and I visited this establishment last Saturday evening. We were not off to a great start to our evening gathering when we were given a table that was very awkwardly positioned in the tiny niche of an area by the staircase on the upper floor. The table was adjacent to the wall of the staircase with the seats going 1-3-1 with the 3 seats facing the wall… It was also very crammed in there, and so we asked for another table (there were at least two other tables that had emptied up then. We could have easily stuck in another chair to make it a 5-seater). The waitress at first said that there were no other tables available. Mind you, I had made a reservation for a table of 5 several days in advance, so I am really not sure how we ended up getting the one in the smallest corner possible. She said that the other tables had been taken up by the time she did decide to check for us, so we were stuck at the original table given to us by the hostess. I had to sit on the outside because being in a tight space gives me anxiety (I am highly claustrophobic). Good thing my friends were not?! Anyway, the service was okay. Although one of our friends received one of their dishes they had ordered way too late, as it came after we had already finished eating our food.The most shocking occurrence was when we got our bill at the end. We were a group of 5. And to my knowledge, no establishment in Vancouver pre-charges you for the automatic gratuity of 18% for a group of 5. And even if so, we should’ve been told that we would have a 18% gratuity added to our bill when we sat down and were given the menu. When it was my turn to pay, I was about to tip the waitress the usual 18-20% I normally tip when my friend told me that the tip had already been added to the bill. When I saw that this was the case, I tipped $0.00. This is when the waitress saw this and asked me “if the service had gone okay”. None of my other friends provided an additional tip because we had already had the tip pre-added to our bill, and she kept asking each one of us if the service had been okay, like she was taken aback by the fact that we weren’t tipping her. But it was already included in the bill and without our knowledge. She never informed us, and it seemed that she expected us to tip her more on top of the 18% for the minimally mediocre service we received.Needless to say, we will not be visiting Bimini’s again.

Pros are friendly staff, good beer selection, & the back patio. Cons are drinks are crazy expensive ($9 for PBR?!), it’s super loud in the evenings, and the food is bad (like 5 different kinds of fries for $12!). Wish they’d just do basic pub food like nachos rather than poorly made “fancy” appies.

The place is fine but the bar man automatically gave himself a 20% tip ? I went in yesterday during the Kitsilano fest, Is this standard practice? I was a bit shocked when this happend. Very strange

Not very impressed by new ownership/management. Have been coming here regularly for trivia nights on Mondays. Previously Monday evenings were quite lively and had great service. Most recently the service was friendly but very slow because they were clearly understaffed. When asked the server mentioned the previous staff had all quit or been fired. There were also no drink specials at all anymore and the beers they did have listed on the wall/menu did not match what was available.

Extremely loud place. I get that it turns into a night club after 9 (which didn’t look a club after 9 still, didn’t see a single soul dancing until midnight when we left). It’s a bar that you can’t talk in without loosing your voice. Food was average.

Have been a few times since new owners. They give new meaning to the word “clueless”.They are consistent - no one has a clue how to run a business/bar and it is abundantly clear. From the staff to management and owners they managed to achieve a trifecta of bad service, terrible environment and awful overpriced food and drink. Questionable cleanliness at best

Been to this place earlier several times, I am amazed how people can not like the vibe here now. This time, the revamp of Bimini's is certainly heart warming. Their ambience is so welcoming and cozy. Been here four time now, after the ownership changed. The entire staff is so hospitable, met the managers, D & Korena, our server Maggie and Nik, everyone's great. Even met the owner, she's so humble and striking. The food is yum, so are the drinks. Prices are reasonable. Bimini's has truly become my fave go-to spot now

Happy hour til 7pm with $7 house wine and $10 cocktails. Friendly staff and back patio gets sun late in the day. Space is huge inside, with multiple levels and even a pool table.

Excellent burger, great vegetarian cauliflower, friendly customer service, parking at the back, quiet and comfortable place.
