St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton: Emergency Room

Some of the kindest most caring staff I have ever encountered in an emergency department. I have been here twice and both times the staff were so kind and thorough I was blown away. You can tell these people actually care :)

My wife just had surgery and the nurses are wonderful. They did their job very well. I only had an issue with the information desk. One word: rude.

I was recently in emergency then on a ward. I nearly died from very severe pneumonia and a severe lung infection that had a fair size necrosed spot on the lung. I was treated very quickly and very very well. While I was on a ward the nurses were fantastic. The food wasn't very good at all. Yes I have food allergies but I'm also NOT a vegetarian or vegan yet they repeatedly sent me vegetarian meals which doesn't exactly help someone who has recently dropped a large amount of weight from being extremely ill and nearly dying to recuperate. I obviously went without meals several times because they refused to send me anything I could or would eat. Thankfully recuperating from extreme illness doesn't come with a large appetite when you are just starting to recover. So missing meals wasn't a huge hardship to me but the Doctor & nurses weren't happy that I wasn't eating... they spoke with food services and still nothing changed they refused to change anything. Makes me wonder who's in charge of the patients care when it comes to the meals is it the medical staff Doctor's & nurses or food services?

the worst experience I had in my life. Never ever go to this hospital!! They kept me waiting for 12 hours! the nurses were incapable of drawing blood and the doctor was soo arrogant. My situation was very risky, I had to pay loads of money to fly back to my homeland and have hysteroctomy. Health system here in Canada makes me feel helpless

As a health care professional after i saw how it goes in this emergency I’m truly scared for my future in Canada. I came here having stomach pain, chest pain radiating to my back, when i arrived to emerg they had a tiny booth with a sticker on it that says take a ticket! Any person who is in distress will not see that i sat there for a good 30 min before some old lady who has been there alot showed me what to do. After evaluation they sat me down in the waiting area and i was begging them for pain relief they gave me Tylenol and asked me to do blood work after that i continued sitting crying in pain and again begged for painkillers they asked for a urine test and i continued sitting there crying and no one to help after i no longer could take the pain i decided to leave the hospital and go home to take a painkiller because at this point i didn’t care if i have a heart attack or a stomach issue or back issue i just needed pain relief!!!

Add 2 hours to whatever the wait time is in Charlton. Don’t be fooled when it says 46 minutes lol. Staff are great, but do not be tricked by the timing
