I am very impressed with the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff. Because of their willingness to help me correct my application, I have received my son's passport in 2 monthsIt is really wonderful in this day and age. Thanks a million!

Haven't been to their offices but wow, am I ever so thankful for Rosie. Honestly, so informative and quick to reply. Rosie is super helpful and actually wants to assist people. I'm quite surprised at the negative reviews as my experience thus far has been good. In the process of getting my application ready to renew my passport (another stress during covid) and despite the Consulate being closed, ALL of my questions (I've asked many) have been addressed. Thank you so much!

The phone number does not work, answering an e-mail took about 2 weeks from their part. Once here it feels they do not want you to visit or benefit from tourists. Rude consular services, unhelpful. The process for a tourist visa is very rigid and feels outdates at best.

Been about 3 or 4 months since I began my passport application. I was not told all the required documents nor was I told home affairs sent my application back due to the missing document. Been 2 weeks and not able to get hold of anyone. Really makes me wish I was born else where cause it is beyond pathetic. I am an international student (19 years old). My student visa and passport expire in October 2023 and I’m now lost. Please if you can change nationality then I can’t stress enough you do

I am appalled of the service from this consult. The staff do not answer emails and are unhelpful when they do, cause it will mean they would have to work for the money they earn. It’s not right how the staff at this consulate treat people who are South Africans or who would like to go to South Africa.

The worst government administration I have ever tried to deal with. Their hours on Google & their website don't align with their hours over the phone. Went to the office today (a Tuesday) and the building security informed me they are closed every Tuesday and Friday. No mention of being closed on Tuesdays or Fridays anywhere!Finally when I got in contact with them via email, they were completely unable to assist me. I need a Police Clearance Report from South Africa. They pretty much told me to buzz off and deal with it myself. I was told me to contact South African Police Services directly and ask them for a Police Report. Funny enough, the SAPS website states clearly for people outside South Africa to deal with their local Embassies.

I had an amazing experience at the South African General Consulate..we were not aware of many things and the guy that was there was so helpful and j really appreciate the help that he had given he was by the name of Gail but he was really helpful and I had everything done in a very short time and it was a great experience overall.

I had an appointment and Mr.Gayle helped me with fingerprints and photos. Although this was the second time. I applied for my passport last year in April and almost after a year I got to know that my fingerprints need to be done again. Great stuff....so this was the second attempt.

Worst experience ever. Went there for visa application. The lady was so rude. Told us that we were wasting her time after she has sent us home back and forth 3 times for more and more documents. Each time we come with what she asked she will add another requirement as if she decides what document to submit depending on how she feels. Very sad. I felt like crying. I ended up giving up. We were driving from Hamilton can you imagine ! They never answer the phone. And when you decide to go there in person it’s to receive that kind of treatment.

I thought the reviews must be some sort of joke. No. No joke. The person I spoke with answered the phone on speaker - for my personal questions. Completely inappropriate. He then proceeded to advise that only two of the three forms I needed were online - that I had to request in writing the third form, so that I could fill it out and send it back to them on paper. No other way than to do this or arrive in person - as if I have nothing better to do. Completely inappropriate and inefficient. Wish I could say I expected differently.
