We got our old carpet stairs upgraded to hardwood stairs. Began the project by getting quotes from several contractors. Visited their new showroom in Oakville and really liked the quality of workmanship in the sample stairs. Got a quote, which was very reasonable. We had to provide a sample of hardwood floor for the shade we wanted. They got matching custom stain manufactured. The project took 4-5 days, which was inconvenient, but it was well worth it once the new stairs were ready! I would highly recommend their service.

They did a great job with our stairs. Haseeb is a very hard-working and nice individual and he did a wonderful job with our stairs. He pays great attention to detail when doing the working on the stairs. They turned out great.

We had many concerns and issues during our stair project. The owner Shahid, told me that I don’t understand wood but I actually do understand wood, especially when I see one of good quality. So, no offence but the quality of the wood is the ONLY thing that S and M stairs has. The installation and customer service are both terrible. The stairs in their showroom in Oakville are “spray painted using latex paint”. They never do these method at your house(too harmful the owner said). So don’t admire the paint of the stairs at the showroom, yours will be nothing like that!! They stained ours and looked like a fence wood paint and they ended redoing the entire stairs.About the installation, the installers do not put any effort to do a good job! We ended up having 3 different installers come to our house to finish the stairs. They cut risers/ steps incorrectly, they installed posts and risers at an angle. If you point out their mistakes they reply back with “you talk too much” or “you complain too much”. We paid money to have nice stairs and we are suppose to settle for anything less? The installers say that they will come in the morning(9:30) but they don’t come until 10:30-11 then quickly work with lots of mistakes to finish the work for the day at around 1pm to 2pm. 2 out of 3 installers didn’t speak English well so you need to call the owner Shahid to talk about what is happening. The owner would then call the installers with instructions on what to do. Then, they would try do the correct work. We would try to explain issues with them and they would reply that they understand then continue to do the wrong work.The first two installers caused a lot of damage to our house by cutting door trims and drywall unnecessarily. With the last installer (3rd installer), we were finally able to communicate well in English and he did a decent job given he started someone else’s work half way and he had to fix and finish the job. He was so worried that Shahid wasn’t going to pay him for his extra work to fix other two installers mistakes. He was complaining how he hates fixing someone else’s work and how things should have been done correctly the first time. Near the end he also started rushing and made mistakes applying the simple clear varnish! Not to mention the installer's wife constantly complaining about the amount of work they are doing at our house.After all said and done, our stringer is cracking and will likely cause future problems. Throughout the process, garbage items were repeatedly left outside our house for long period of time and our neighbours started to complain. We would have to beg the installers to take it. They said they will but never did. My husband and I had to load it to our car to dump it. The installers and Shahid left our basement in a mess by never cleaning it at all.Overall, it was a tormenting process to get our stairs done by Shahid/ S&M stairs which took 2 months to complete.Best of luck with your stairs renovation if you end up choosing this company.

It was time for railings in our church sanctuary for the safety of our elders and for a railings solution to all our other staircases for the safety of the children attending our on-site full-time daycare. We contacted several contractors. S&M Stairs were the most responsive, creative and affordable. They offered a design for children's railings that was simple yet innovative. Shahid, Haseeb and Hamden were attentive, professional and a pleasure to work with. They were able to get all the railings installed in time for Christmas. We are very pleased with the work done and highly recommend S&M Stairs for your stairway/railings project in your home or your church!

Amazing design work - got a custom set made at S&M and the team was there from start to finish. They helped us pick a stair-set that works best with out current house(flooring) and a post design that's modern. Delivery was on time and the staff is super friendly.
