Fortress Inn Louisbourg

Rooms smell musty. We were in two different ones and they smelled the same. Shower didn't work in one- water ran inside the wall. Acceptable for the price though. I guess COVID didn't help to keep things up. For the price, I would stay again.

Don't stay here! Old motel type, ridiculous step up into our room.I usually book a handicap accessible room, none here.

The room I was in was simple but it was a comfortable stay. All the walls were freshly painted, new hard flooring, the ac worked well, hot water in the shower with good pressure. The bed mattresses appeared to be pretty new. For the price you can't expect too much. The only real negative is the included breakfast was pretty basic. I would stay here again if I stayed in the area.

All in all a nice place to stay. The price was fair and there was a small Continental breakfast offered. The only trouble was, finding something to eat at this location. The restaurant seemed to be closed and nothing else in the near was open, so maybe keep that in mind. The Louisbourg fortress is quite near, so that's nice.

If you are planning on seeing anything within Louisbourg, then the location of this motel is ideal, beyond that I can not say anything positive.It is a stereotypical run-down independent small-town motel where the door is opened with a physical key. The motel is attached to a local bar where the inn manager can be found. Food is available at certain times via that bar. After hours, microwaveable hoggies can be purchased.The room looks like it is original from the 80s. There is a fridge, microwave and a Keureg but the furniture is spartan. The tub has water stains and the washroom looks just as dated as the rest of the motel. Biggest issue I had was that the thermostat did not seem to want to heat up the room (via baseboard heaters) and in terms of safety, the smoke detector battery compartment was open and empty (pressing test provided no alarms) and the electrical socket plates was not secured to the wall.This level of comfort during a low season was 100$/night. Not worth it at all given for a few tens of dollars more I can stay at a proper hotel. If I were to do this trip again, I would take the 30 min 1-way drive hit and stay in Sydney instead.

Rooms are clean and spacious.Front staff is pleasant and accommodating.Little grocery area in office. Offers drinks, toiletries, and snacks. Breakfast offered in the morning (complimentary). Menu includes dry cereal, oatmeal, yogurt and toast. Coffee is delightful. Wifi is a little tricky. Had to make phones outside the room.Not bad at all, for the price of the rooms.

What a fantastic gem hidden away in a small town. The price was fair and the rooms are decent. The beds are comfortable. The food in the restaurant was good. The free breakfast in the morning was very simple...juice, coffee, tea, toast and beagles. I would definitely stay again

My night in Louisbourg was arguably my best night in Cape Breton. Not only was the inn conveniently located and the rooms clean and comfortable, but the staff was incredible. They made me feel so welcome, almost like I was a local myself. We spend the better part of the night at Jakes (the bar/restaurant in the hotel) and had the best time listening to the piano, singing, dancing, making new friends, and of course enjoying a pint or two! The Louisbourg Inn and Jakes are a must stop in Louisbourg! I will absolutely be making a trip back. I miss it already!
