When I was asked to choose hospice for a loved one I was impressed by the reviews and the online photos and felt I was making the right decision. Twice I have been in tears because of the lack of care my loved one has received. He sat in his own urine for two days because I was told that he refused care (he refused at hospital too (85 with dementia) but they still changed him. The batting from the pull up he was wearing was stuck to his private area and he had not been changed. He was also not given food for two days because he said he wasn’t hungry. Now I can understand how someone might say he refused so there is nothing that can be done but this happens at the hospital and they don’t just allow you to sit in your own waste and not leave a food tray. Two of the nurses at Cottage stand out to me and are amazing and able to change him, wash him and shave him and brought him food so I will say that it has to do with approach and WANTING to help and also about your heart as a person. Stacey and Desiree are two nurses that care and it shows in the treatment the provide to their patients.Yesterday I picked him up from hospice to take him out and was appalled at the breakfast he was brought (only after I asked if he was served one when I called in). He was given ensure from their fridge (one he doesn’t like- he has his own ) and a pudding they have ready made in the fridge . The nurse that served this to him chose something that required the least amount of effort. Who gives pudding to a senior or even a child for breakfast. I find it heartbreaking that the people that come to hospice are on their final journey and they should be treated with respect and care and not something we rush through. It’s about connection and compassion and believe me people know when you are genuine. To do this job you need to care about the people and it’s very clear that some nurses care more than others. To Stacey and Desiree you are a wonderful example of how to treat people, you both show you care by the way you treat your patients and I thank you from the bottom of my heart not only for my loved one but for all those at hospice that are lucky enough to have you as their nurse.Writing this isn’t easy for me. I don’t want to leave this kind of feedback and I might not be received in the best way but with no social worker on hand or manager at this time at hospice this is the only way this might be reviewed and people acknowledged and held accountable.

Thank you for taking care of my grandpa before his passing. Thank you to all the staff for making him happy a few more times before he left us and writing this beautiful note. ❤️

Wow what an amazing experience, from A class doctors, nurses and care aides. Even the cook and cleaners take the time out to make you feel at home. With fantastic views of the burrard inlet, North Vancouver and even the stunning gardens this place is an immaculate place for anybody's loved ones. The hospice is surrounded by a park with families, kids and pets in an eyes view you never feel alone. The social worker and clinical manager go above and beyond in their work to the point you'll forget what their duties are.If you're in need to find your loved ones a great home before they go to heaven look no further this place is for everyone.Btw thank you cottage for the love and support in my times of need. We're very grateful for the experience.
