I was working for Viking Air as an aerospace engineer and approached United Engineering about welding together a jig to hold a large aircraft for a turboprop propulsion conversion. Viking’s chief of production had set up a meeting with United Eng’s rep, who was a friend to him. I had drawn up a set of plans to present to United. Unknown to me, the Viking chief had made arrangements with the United rep to give me a hard time about my engineering drawings. The meeting went badly for me as the United Rep laid into me about how he thought my drawings were terrible and the project unbuildable. I departed and sought another vendor to build the jig, not realizing that the Viking chief and United rep were having a laugh at my expense. A week later, the United rep called me and asked if I had made a decision on the job. He seemed surprised that I had found someone else to do the work. It was then that he told me about the arrangement to reject my drawings no matter what. He actually thought the drawings were quite good. I couldn’t believe that he would let someone convince him to behave so unprofessionally. The job was worth $10,000’s to United Eng. I informed him I was going to stay with a vendor in Victoria (I didn’t explain that there was no way I could ever trust this company)
