Volunteer Toronto Central-West

I first learned about Volunteer Toronto after attending their “6 Ways Volunteering Can Help When Looking For Work” information session. It was exactly what I needed, as I was looking to change industries at the time. After the session, I got an appointment with a Referral Counsellor to help me find the perfect volunteer position for me. With the Referral Counsellor, we found a position that was exactly what I was looking for within Volunteer Toronto itself. I applied, was interviewed and taken on as their Web Assistant volunteer from November 2015 to July 2016. Working with Ainsley Kendrick, their Marketing and Communications Manager, was an amazing experience. She taught me a lot of the ins and outs of non-profits and how their marketing strategies and goals differ from corporations. I had the chance to propose some changes to improve the organization’s online reach and implement the solutions myself. I felt more like an employee, than just a volunteer! All the things I have learned from this position are ones that I have been able to apply to my new job (in the non-profit sector). I will forever be grateful for all the doors Volunteer Toronto has opened for me.

Volunteer Toronto facilitated my volunteering experience in two ways:(a) via their portal, I was able to connect to an opportunity with the Woodgreen Community Connections program where I have been teaching/coaching professional newcomers to Canada ever since - loving it!(b) attended a Becoming a Board member" session delivered by Camara. I appreciate the practical tips/advice she shared which prepared me for my current board position at a housing non-profit in Peel.I encourage anyone who is noodling the idea of getting involved as a volunteer to reach out to Volunteer Toronto. They are friendly and very helpful!"

Great service for our organization Ontario Track 3 Ski Association for the Disabled.....they really try and support organization like ours in the recruitment of volunteers. They provide seminars that can be beneficial to many groups.

Volunteer Toronto connects volunteers to organizations that need them. They offer webinars and informative events for volunteer organizations. One of the best things that they do is their annual gala to highlight extraordinary volunteers.

I volunteered with Volunteer Toronto after my junior year of high school. Through the Youth Leadership Team, I met some of the modt amazing people, whom I've kept on contact with ever since. We worked together, laughed together, and made media content I'm still proud of today. The team there is amazing too.

Many volunteer opportunities from several different organizations and groups. Board member positions to special events staff to after school programming are all available. Something for everyone and lots of ways of getting involved in your community.

I volunteered for the organization for several weeks for their Legacy awards. This place is great. Positive environment and they really treat their volunteers with respect and are very patient. I was out of work at the time and this volunteer experience built up my self-esteem. I’m now back to full time work but would love to volunteer with them again but they're closed on weekends.

I say this because attending just one simple session at their office in downtown Toronto changed the course of my job search.I was like every new skilled immigrant that lands in Canada and then faces the frustrating reality of the job market here. You lack local Canadian experience. Your skills and language may be at par with professionals here. But somehow you are being overlooked. Well, you need to network within the industry of your skill to get that interview call. But how do you break into a network when you are new to a country? Through volunteering. This is where Volunteer Toronto enters.I still remember, i just googled 'volunteer toronto' one afternoon and landed on their website. I saw that they were hosting an information session about volunteering. One member from their team, Roxanne explained to us how we can get started and answered all our concerns.The best part about Volunteer Toronto is their website. There are hundreds of volunteer opportunities in the industry category of your choice. I landed a volunteering gig in my skill industry and within days I started there.Volunteer Toronto is a great resource, especially for new immigrants who looking to add work experience to their resumes.
