Red Rock Inn

If you read the reviews, as we did, you'll expect this hotel to be fabulous. That's not exactly true. (I suspect some faked reviews, but who knows.) It's actually hard to know what to say about the Red Rock Inn. Our room was clean, the sheets were fresh and crisp, the bathroom was quite newly redone, and the towels were nice.On the other hand, the lobby was cluttered and the exterior desperately needed maintenance. I'm not exaggerating when I say the furnishings in our room could have come straight from someone's grandma's house. If you'd happily stay at a hostel, this might be the place for you. It wasn't necessarily the right place for me, but we were safe and got some sleep.

Owners very friendly and treated me like I was a favorite aunt over for a visit. Historic building with excellent information available to read in the lobby. Charming rooms that were clean and quiet. This is not a ritzy glitzy place but a wonderful place to relax with nature, history & genuinely nice people.

Old historic Inn. Needs lots of love. I am confused by all the 5 stars reviews…did you stay where I was? The smell of wet carpet, the lack of amenities and the price…is enough not to book here.I agree with all the one star comments!

Absolutely wonderful place to stay. Don at the front desk was a pleasure to deal with. Great value for money and a beautiful little town.

This hotel is like a journey into the past. The owner of the hotel gave a whole tour of this large building that was once a school long ago. This is real Canadian history! Of course, the house and rooms require good maintenance and repair. And the hotel is located a few kilometers from the highway, so travelers often ignore it. The breakfast was delicious and fresh. Although I wrote that the hotel needs a good renovation, nevertheless I salute the owner for preserving such a piece of history.

Retro style cozy little inn tucked away from main roads and noisy streets. Great view of the lake and lots of nostalgic photos and items to view. The host Don is full of stories and such a treat to talk with. Home away from home. Highly recommend! Thanks again Don!

Wonderful visit. Friendly, welcoming, inviting, and fun. Eclectic mix of antiques with a Victorian feel. My room was clean and comfortable, and while a little tired somehow seemed to just add to the vibe of the place. The building as completed in 1937, and my host shared local stories of the area, and people. I would stay again for sure.

Just some other reviews have mentioned, you really need to lower your expectations when staying at the Red Rock Inn. We really had no idea what we were getting into when we booked here but we are sure glad we did. There weren’t any tvs in the rooms but they had modern finishings in the bathroom, and rustic charm. The whole place was filled with rustic charm. It often felt like we were walking through different decades as we roamed the hotel. The breakfast included was an added bonus and the owners of the inn were so friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our conversations with Don and all of his stories that he shared about his adventures. We would recommend this place to anyone looking for a quiet getaway, and we’ll definitely be back ourselves!

What a fantastic place room waa excellent! The owner was so friendly. This place is a step back in time. Well worth the drive off the highway. If you're looking for a rustic relaxing place to spend the night and great comfort. This is a place for you! On my list of places to go again if I ever happen to find myself in thunder Bay!

One of the coolest and unique locations I've been to. Donnie Evans (the owner) couldn't have been more hospitable. I'll be back again and again!!!
