Island Römer Adventures

This was a great kayak experience and I felt we were in good hands. The kayaks and equipment were in super condition. The pace was comfortable and the scenery was great. Richard was super knowledgeable of the things seen along the trip. Well worth the trip.

We got lucky in getting an exclusive tour with Richard on a beautiful sunny Saturday. We had taken the 4hr kayak tour around Newcastle islands. The tour was very much fun and informative. Richard was very good at guiding us throughout the tour. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for a fun information kayak tour around the Vancouver islands.

We had a great tour around Saysutshun (Newcastle) Island with our guests from the Netherlands. Richard is a very knowledgeable guide and instructor and had many interesting facts about the area. He even had double kayak specifically for tall people! Highly recommended activity for a fun day at sea!

Our group of 6 work colleagues spent a stellar afternoon with Romer’s owner/guide Richard, a experienced and knowledgeable kayaker who offered us a wonderful 4 hr tour in the near-waters around Nanaimo bay. Richard was a great communicator giving us (as relative inexperienced and some first-timer kayakers) technical and safety tips and keeping in tune with the group throughout the day to balance the level of exercise, flor and fauna observing, local history, and fun. Very, very good guide, great equipment, very reasonable fees, super high entertainment and joy value. The waters in this region are stellar for kayaking—we saw tons of wildlife, lovely inlets, some caves, a nice break at a beach. Seals in groups, bald eagles, raccoons eating shellfish, Kingfisher and other birds… abundant! I would add that I would trust Richard completely with younger or older clients—he is very attuned to the relative skills and interest/needs of each client—put yourself in his hands and you will have a great time. It really was delightful. Thank you Richard and Romer Adventures!

Richard is such a fun and knowledgeable guide. We spent the day paddling around DeCourcy, and Richard took the time to tell us all about the local ecology and long history of the places we were seeing.He cares very deeply about giving his clients the best experience on the water, and gives you the tools before you set out so that you can feel confident in your boat. Could not recommend a better place to go for your sea adventures!!!!

HIGHLY recommend Island Romer Adventures for your next sea kayaking tour!! If you’re thinking about going anywhere else; think again! You won’t find a better experience in Nanaimo than this.We called day-of and we were lucky enough to get a spot! Richard is experienced, kind and charismatic. He knows so much about the area, the history and the environment! It was such an interesting tour filled with local history and information about the nature and wildlife around us; and not to mention beautiful! (It was raining and cloudy but still had some incredible views)I have to say that Richard is the most dedicated guide I have ever experienced. I dropped my phone in the water about 10 feet under, and Richard dove into the freezing water to get it for me. I was assuming I’d have to cut my losses and leave my phone, but Richard came to the rescue! I never would have done that myself. I should also note that it was a very stupid slip up on my part, and Richard did not make me feel stupid or silly for a moment. He was kind and continued to treat us with respect. We consider ourselves lucky to have gotten a tour with Richard!If you’re on the fence about booking; trust me, BOOK THE TOUR!!

We had so much fun. Richard told us a lot of natural/history stories, and showed us many wild animals. Highly recommended!

We went on a fantastic 4 hr kayaking tour around Newcastle Island with Richard. Despite having no kayaking (not to mention sea kayaking) experience we felt like we were in very good hands, as Richard was patient and made sure our safety was priority.We saw a few seals, one river otter and tons of birds (one falcon I believe?) on this very picturesque journey around the island. My favourite part is hands down riding across the wake of a departing ferry. The rolling waves are quite surreal when you go across them.Richard is also very knowledgeable about the history of the surrounding areas so it will be a beautiful and educational trip while you work your shoulders for the views.I highly recommend giving Richard a try if you're feeling for an outdoor adventure! P.s. I don't feel like I'm particularly fit so I feel like it's a pretty accessible sport.

The Level 1 Sea Kayak Skills Course (June 9 & 10, 2023) was excellent. The instructors (Richard and John) are very knowledgeable, helpful, and encouraging. The 2-day course was challenging and great fun; I am keen to continue to learn and enjoy many fun paddling adventures in the coming years. Thank you so much for a terrific experience. Sandi Wiggins

Richard was a phenomenal guide. He was patient and instructive. He was rich with information about the history of the region and the wildlife and geography. (I learned something new about starfishes!)We would do this again :-)
