Weston Instruments - Guitar repair and fabrication

I recently had Ian perform a fret dressing, set up and some other work on my two guitars (Epiphone SG and Epiphone Les Paul) The SG had minor fret buzz all up and down the neck while the Les Paul have really bad fret buzz in a few locations to the point where it would kill the note almost entirely. Previous truss rod and bridge adjustments had not corrected these issues satisfactorily for me, so I took both guitars to Ian.WHAT. A. DIFFERENCE.These are two totally different guitars now and better in every way imaginable. They are more far enjoyable to play and I can say that I am 100% happy with the work done to my guitars.Ian also added fret inlays to my Les Paul (a Gothic Les Paul with only on inlay at the 12th fret from the factory) and he did am amazing job there as well. It look beautiful.I would recommend Weston Music to anyone seeking to improve or repair their guitar(s). Well worth it.Thanks, Ian!

Ian fixed a crack in my headstock finish perfectly and cost was very reasonable. Zero trace of any work done when you look at the headstock of my Gibson R9. I will be going to Ian for any serious" work (and even not so serious work LOL). 5 stars !!!!!!!!"

Ian is a luthier who knows exactly what he is doing. He's been doing it for 20+ years. He recommends the best course of action to address any type of guitar issue. His plek machine is awesome. I've had three guitars pleked and setup by Weston Instruments and they all turned out perfect, a Tele, Strat and a 50's Gibson Les Paul. I highly recommend Weston Instruments, they are my go-to for anything guitar related.

Ian is the Bass Meister, that's the only way to describe him.I brought in a 2005 Rickenbacker 4003 that was sorely in need of being setup. It's worth noting that it was setup three times, from three different people, before Ian got a hold of it .Before even getting to the physical work he provided, Ian was responsive, true to his word every time, very genial, and a complete professional.Now, I was convinced it was going to be a huge job, but after an expert feel through Ian knew exactly what to do, and it was no where near the problem I thought it would be. A fret dressing, some truss rod tweaks, a nut slotting, string change, and this bass rips. And I can't believe how reasonable the pricing was.There are now no zero dead spots on the fretboard, and the sustain I get out of it now is nuts! . This bass played like hot garbage before Ian set it up, and It's been a couple of weeks, and nothing has changed at all with what he's done.I would bring any stringed instrument to him again and again, and I live in Montreal! Consider me a client for life.Thanks Ian!

I am very satisfied with my experience with Weston Instruments. Ian is an excellent luthier. He did an awesome job setting up my guitar and changing the nut on my ESP LTD EC-1000T. He fixed the tuning stability issue I have had since I bought this guitar. Now my guitar plays much better than it ever did.Thank you Ian!

Thank you for an incredible PLEK + set up. You've turned my Fender strat from a very expensive wall decor back to being a playable, enjoyable instrument.

I read a bunch of reviews and asked around. Ian came highly recommended.What a great experience and a great team. I had a guitar shipped to Ian that I felt never played the way I wanted it. Sounded great, looked great, played okay. I wanted better than okay. I had taken it to several different guitar techs and always the same result.Since I am not from Ottawa, I sent some notes with the guitar. He called me with additional questions to clarify what I was looking for.For pick up, I was in Ottawa so I made an appointment to go to the workshop to pick it up. I had a chance to meet the team and see the PLEK machine in action. The thing to remember is that a PLEK machine will do whatever you want it to, however you still need the skill and knowledge to get the desired result. That is where Ian and his team come in.The guitar was perfect. I am not sure what magic he used, but it went from okay to AWESOME.I have since sent another guitar for some fretwork... Again awesome!!! Might be a cliche, but I promise that you will not be disappointed.

The complete refret, internal pickup installation, and set-up on my Gibson F5 mandolin is really amazing. It already sounded and played good but your work took it to another level. The string spacing at the nut is far better than factory as well and provides much improved feel and comfort I didn't even know was lacking. With acoustic instruments it's all the little things that count, even more so with diminutive mandolin boxes! In my experience not all guitar techs have the familiarity with mandolins to really dial it in. Not so with Ian - he has that expertise. It can be hard to let people operate" on your prized instruments but the work done at Weston Instruments is top-rate

Top-class service, professionalism and workmanship. My 20-year old Strat plays better than new after Ian repaired a neck issue and did a PLEK+setup, and the work done to repair my 55-year old nylon string (bridge/soundboard separation) was exemplary. Highly recommended, I'll be a customer for life.

Have taken all my guitars to Ian after my experience with the first PLEK setup. If you are a serious player you will appreciate his work.
