James was great to work with and he went out of his way to accomodate our project. Very understanding and super fun to work with.

If I could give negative stars I would. (I have to give one star in order to post the review) I hired James to film a docu-series, starting with 4 episodes. The project was a passion project of mine and I needed a film crew. James was happy to offer that service and seemed to have a lot of knowledge and ideas on how we could work together.We filmed one episode and he hired someone else to edit one rough version of the pilot that was about 15 minutes long. Soon after that my whole family became very sick (Covid) which took over 6 weeks to recover. The project was put on hold by me due to my entire life being upside-down during the time.When I reviewed the first version of the first episode there were many parts of story missing. This is normal for a the first walkthrough of a creative film. I work in film so I know the ins and outs of filming and editing. I immediately felt pushback from James about the creative. I sent him a list of changes for the first version however he decided not to continue with the project.In one email he said he was happy to end the project and give me the files and keep the money. This type of transaction was not part of our contract and I immediately told him I was not ok with that. He had half of the money for a 4 episode project and he left me with raw files (not complete and without model release forms) for one episode.I sent him many emails, calls and texts with no response.Working with James was the worst experience of my career. I trusted him with a passion project and after paying him for half of it he ended the contract, with no negotiation, kept the money (50% paid) and left with less than 15% of the project complete. With one email he ended the contract, kept the money and has ghosted me and my business partner.Though I did like what I saw in his portfolio the creative he left me with was not complete or well done. I can understand inexperience or a difference in opinion on what looks good but I cannot understand how a business owner can have the audacity to end a contract without notice and keep $20k, leaving the client with nothing to show.I've been in the photo and video industry myself for most of my career and am shocked by the unprofessionalism and disregard by James Alton Films. It's also very sad to lose so much money.After seeing another artist hire him I decided I needed to put my story out for others to see. I hope this helps you make your decision. I have since worked with other film companies here in the Okanagan Valley who have been nothing but professional.

James met me at one of his favourite locations to take some photos and professional video's of me for my personal life and my business. He took the time to walk me through everything he was doing and has been a gem when it comes to customer service and following up with finishing the different photo and video projects.

James is a true professional when it comes to videography and film making. He is extremely easy to work with and was able to work with my timeline and budget. He put together a great little commercial for me that exceeded my expectations.
