Maria Nordlund Design is an exceptional team that have massively exceeded my expectations on a complicated project that has been in process for 2 years. Yes 2 years. The fact that I am closer to the team and happier with their work after 2 years really says it all.We bought a lakefront 1960’s rancher on a spectacular lot which had many needs. Phase 1 was a quick light touch spruce up with complete furnishing of 4,000 square feet to get us moved in and figure out what to do. Maria and team worked miracles in 4 weeks.Phase 2, after deciding to commit to unlock the potential of the property and understanding what that would entail, was to rebuild the attached 3 car garage, bathrooms, kitchen, mechanicals, windows, siding, roof, entrance and landscaping including extensive patios This involved many crucial decisions on retaining a retro vibe but a fresh look and feel. Maria Nordlund Design provided priceless ideas, outstanding trades, unique suppliers and firm project management capability on budget and timeline.Phase 3 was a substantial addition which included 4 car garage, 2 bedroom suite with full kitchen and 3 terraces and solarium. The addition involved considerable look and feel challenges to balance building restrictions while complementing the existing house. Maria Nordlund Design provided progressive ideas which in the end created a stellar result.What I value the most about Maria Nordlund Design is a point of view. They have stood up to me when I wanted to go a direction that they felt was wrong for the property. I have trusted their point of view over my own and with the benefit of hindsight they were correct. It is easy to find a design firm that will do what I want but there will be no creative tension. There will be no diversity of thought. For this I am most grateful to Maria and team.Maria and team - this is a key point. While Maria retains overall responsibility, her team is extremely capable. I deal with junior designers, finance, on-site supervision, procurement and installation. Maria Nordlund Design has the feeling of a boutique but the delivery capability of a larger firm. This worked out great for me.Finally, I greatly value a harmonious team in the overall project. Maria Nordlund Design has earned a positive reputation with my other key players such as general contractor, environmental consultants, landscaping contractors, dock contractors etc. I do not want a construction site with tensions, turf battles or finger pointing. After 2 years all of the key players remain and are working together harmoniously. Maria Nordlund Design are demanding without doubt but in a professional and courteous way.

We originally engaged Maria Nordlund Design for a paint colour consult on our newly purchased home. 7 years later and our highly positive relationship continues with the completion of many projects. From furnishings to art decor, Maria and her team have helped create our dream home. Our largest project included a renovation of our kitchen and 6 bathrooms. Our smaller projects included the design of our outdoor kitchen, landscaping and theatre room. From start to finish, Maria and her team have brought so much to the table, including being solutions-oriented, having great style, good relationships and loyalty with trades, skilled logistics, communication, follow up and availability. We look forward to our continued relationship with Maria and her amazing team for all our future projects!

We have worked with Maria and her team over the past 12 years on various renovations and design updates inside and out. She transformed our lakeside home from cute but in-cohesive to WOW! Most recently she has partnered with a local architect to design our new home which will be one of a kind amazing. I spend a lot of time on Pinterest which can lead you in all sorts of crazy directions that just don’t add up. Maria is able to curate my ideas so that the final result is pulled together and better than I can imagine. She has an eye for detail and works well with the trades - our builder loves her so that is a fabulous testament in itself. Our taste leans towards a little quirky so we probably aren’t Maria’s usual clients, but she is able to understand our style, run with it, and give us something that reflects who we are - and more. She has helped make our houses homes full of soul that feel a part of us, and that is what you want your designer to do. Worth every penny - and even my husband agrees! We have a saying when we are trying to decide on a design idea ‘WWMD?’ Or ‘ what would Maria do?’ That’s how much we trust her.

Maria Nordlund and her team updated my lakeside home beautifully. The indoor renovations, e.g spa bathroom, barn door, redesigned wine bar etc. are the envy of my friends and functional too boot! The outside touches like the pergola entryway completely changed the look of the house. The crowning glory is the outdoor kitchen! Its spectacular! Maria and her team have a way of making you feel like you are their only client, very special. I recommend them to anyway looking to enhance their world with function and beauty.

We’ve recently come to the end of an extensive home renovation project with a large addition, detached garage, complete interior and exterior remodelling as well as landscaping.
