Halibut House Fish and Chips
Worth a try, honestly. We got the fried mushrooms and fish chowder to start. I don't doubt that the fish chowder is made in-house, but it was definitely microwaved. The flavor was fairly decent, but required some salt and pepper for seasoning. Luckily it was provided at the table. The mushrooms were pretty good. A light batter complimented the mushrooms and they were quite tasty. We got the Haddock and the Halibut. Both were fried very well and tasted great. Fries were very thick, which ensures that moisture gets trapped in the fries when they cook so they aren't extremely crispy. They're mostly fluffy with a thicker skin, but by no means are they a bad fry. Coleslaw was not made with the normal creamy dressing, and instead uses some sort of sweet/lemon/vinegar? Its not terrible, but not my thing. The gravy is BAD. Do not get it. It looks and tastes like salty jello. Its your standard store bought mushroom gravy thats probably been left to dehydrate for way too long. Its salty and gross, but that is my only REAL complaint. But yeah, honestly worth a try. If you just get the fish and chips, you will most likely walk out satisfied, but any apps/extras will probably be hit or miss.

I came right before lunch time for the Wednesday special. The fish tacos were great, super crispy fish with a light coleslaw and reading. A simple and delicious 3 bite appetizer. The fish and chips were also good, plenty of crispy batter and chips on the plate. I do wish they had provided more fish and closeslaw however. The fish was unbalanced and it felt mostly like batter and potatoes.

This is a new spot for fish and chips in Victoria Park and Sheppard. Given that its location is in the building (but had its own entrance), there are so many spots for parking. It's open as early as 8am, they offer breakfast until 2pm, and close at 9pm. We bought haddock and chips, and luckily, they had a weekend special that day, so instead of paying $14.95 + taxes, it came down to $11 + taxes which is great. The servings are big, the fish is crispy on the outside. The batter is really good. They have a wide selection on their menu, they even offer cakes from The Cheesecake Factory. The inside is not that big, but enough if you opt to dine-in. The staff are nice. The place is clean. We'll definitely try their breakfast next time.

We had our Halibut and Chips delivered by Uber. It was nice and hot most likely because the store is nearby our house. The food looked great - crisp battered fish and fresh cut fries which were golden yellow in colour. Good size portions but I found the fish to be dry as also reported by others here. I think it may be due to the use of “frozen” Halibut which as far as I’m concerned is a no no for a fish and chip shop in Toronto. For this reason I would not go back.

New franchised fish and chips place opened right off the highway.Missed their Grand opening BOGO offer earlier but now they're offering Buy 1 get 1 Half (haddock/ cod fish and chips only).Spacious, clean and bright environment.Service was great by this polite kind young gentleman server.Menu is extensive and with a colourful pictorial menu.Currently if you write a Google review there is a free slice of cheesecake offer. As noted by the server, during their BOGO promotion they took some heavy hits by some reviewers. They did try their best and I can see that during my dine in experience.Fish were great and fresh. Chips you should add your own preference of salt.Mushrooms were fresh and moist inside. The Breaded Clams and Fish Chowder I wouldn't order again.Overall, definitely give this place a try.

Normally spend hundreds of dollars buying your halibut family packs for frequent get-togethers but thought I would grab a quick snack, Fries and gravy..... COST ME $18 BUCKS and the box was 1/3rd empty!I wouldn't complain but your haddock and chips that come in the same box for the same amount of fries costs the same price!Ripping off customers on fries will just make me spend my $$ elsewhere.

To be fair, I think most restaurants need to work out their kinks on their opening day/week, so I'd take initial reviews (including mine) with a grain of salt. Between July 8-24, they're offering buy one, get one 50% off fish and chips, only for haddock and cod (while quantities last), and you must purchase a meal (not just fish on its own). The fish was a decent portion of and the onion rings were decent, but the fries were only so-so. The restaurant isn't super big, but there is dine-in (indoor and patio) available. Would go again, but definitely not at the top of my list for fish & chips in the city.A lot of people are complaining about the BOGO special on opening day yesterday, but honestly, what did you expect? The restaurant setting restrictions on what items are BOGO isn't outrageous (all food and retail joints do it), and if you don't want to wait, maybe go somewhere else when you see a massive line out the door?

As a rule, I enjoy the food at Halibut House. That said, I can't recommend this location. This was our first time ordering from this location and it will be the last. Honestly, if this is indicative of the food regularly served here, then someone should really teach the staff working here how to cook.I had the cod which was overcooked, bland and greasy and the fries which were undercooked . My son had the shrimp which were heavily breaded and greasy. On the plus side, my wife enjoyed her hamburger. For a place that claims to specialize in fish, and especially for the price charged, I expect better. I still enjoy Halibut House. But won't be returning to this location.

Very nice place to go for your neighborhood fish and chips and a cold beverage.I will be back.My only complaint is the tartar sauce. Very week in flavor. Mainly mayonnaise is what I got from the taste/flavor. I believe the type of condiment bottle they are using may also have a negative effect on the consistency of the flavor coming from the bottle. I would prefer the old Hellmann's or Heinz, individual packets.I may have to bring my own next visit.Halibut was very good and lightly breaded.Fish Tacos was very tasty. And calamari a nice shareable.

Came here for dinner during opening week as I was not willing to wait in line for opening day. There was still the BOGO 50% off deal. I can't say it was the best experience, but it definitely wasn't as bad as some of these patrons are trying to make it sound. There was a lot of seating available indoors and outdoors. I came on a weekday after 7:30pm. The servers were quick to come by and take our drink orders. However when we tried to order the special, we were then told about the fineprint" on the offer
