Alexandra Bridge

The Royal Alexandra Bridge Interprovincial Bridge, a.k.a. the Interprovincial Bridge or the Alexandra Bridge, which connects the National Gallery of Canada on the Ottawa side and the Canadian Museum of History on the Gatineau side. It is part of the Trans Canada Trail and my favourite of the 5 Ottawa bridges... and not just because I had a coup de foudre for a man called Louis and nearly fell off my bicycle.As a cyclist or pedestrian the boardwalk (wood) portion of the bridge does a melodic clickety-clack every time a bicycle goes by. It's either poetic or upsetting. It have crossed this bridge in the rain on multiple occasions and witnessed beautiful skies from here. It's one of Ottawa's windy places, if you ever need a break from the region's hot and humid summer days.There have been events like picnics on the bridge and it is the best place to capture all the sights of the National Capital Region. You can see Champlain Point overlooking the bridge, 2 museums, Victoria Island, the Parliament, and so on.One year when it was formidably frozen, several crazy adventurers made their way across the ice, only to see running water the following week. Though you could easily fall through the ice for daring such a stunt, several have sadly fallen off this bridge to their death.As the bridge is over 120 years old, Public Services and Procurement Canada is considering replacing the bridge.Those of us who have felt a little woozy crossing from Ottawa to Gatineau, because we are driving on a metal lattice instead of a paved road will welcome this, providing the heritage of the bridge is preserved.Load restriction to 27 tonnes.

A great walk after the Rideau Canal to experience the city skyline of both Gatineau and Ottawa.

An excellent bridge. The Alexandra Bridge has a gorgeous view of Ottawa, notably Parliament Hill. It has a pedestrian path that is separated from the traffic, which is a safety feature I definitely appreciate.

Alexandra Bridge is very picturesque from any angle. If you're looking at it from Parliament Hill, it defines perspectives of the Ottawa River. If you're looking at Ottawa from the bridge, you'll get great views of the hill. It also has good vantage points on Gatineau, East or West. Crossing it on foot will provide one of the best sightseeing experiences in Ottawa. Don't hesitate. If you're in a hurry, it'll only take 10 minutes, but it will provide endless pleasure.

Beautiful bridge connecting the cities of Ottawa and Gatineau, and their respective provinces of Ontario and Quebec. The bridge underwent renovations and has a side dedicated to pedestrians so you walk, jog, run, bike and stop and go safely. It does feel a little bit shaky with the cars moving back and forth, but it’s still nice and stable. It also offers great views of parliament and the river!

The Royal Alexandra Interprovincial Bridge connects Ottawa Ontario to Gatineau Quebec. It was constructed by the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1900 spanning 556 ft long over the Ottawa river. The bridge has been designated as a National Historic Civil Engineering site.
