I stayed here for three nights for a work trip in Guelph. The hotel suites themselves were immaculate - really beautiful decor and spacious. A bit of water damage and bubbling in the paint, and the condensation from the skylight caused it to drip down when the room got hot, but that's not exactly trip-ruining. What WAS trip-ruining, however, was the Western's very own bar downstairs. Before booking, we read a bunch of reviews - the vast majority of them were positive, with the Google Reviews hovering around an avg of 4.8. Compared to other hotels in Guelph, this was stellar, so we booked right away (this was in November 2022).Closer to our stay, we were planning our trip when we noticed the avg Google Review rating dropped to 4.1. Not a huge deal, but we checked out the negative ones. Almost every single 1-star mentioned loud club music blasting all night, so we packed a few pairs of heavy-duty earplugs in preparation but weren't super worried; according to Google, the bar closes at 11:30 PM on weekends. We arrived on a Friday (my work conference was Fri-Sun) and everything was great - at first, there was a bit of music in the early evening (around 8-10) but it was easy to drown out with some white noise and an earplug in my exposed ear. It was clear that the reviews were overdramatic - a bit of bad country music filtering into the room at 8 pm definitely wasn't a huge issue.Saturday night was a whole other story. All weekend, I had to wake up around 6 am to head to work, so I tried going to bed around 10 pm. To call this club music was a huge understatement. There was loud music blasting so loudly, it sounded like there was a concert below us. From the bass literally rattling the objects on the nightstand to the sound of the audience screaming the lyrics, it was clear that this was a live music event (the only redeeming factor was that the music was great, early 2000s Jonas Brothers-type stuff). My earplugs were worthless; they did nothing to block out the noise, even in both ears. I had my phone playing white noise at full volume, but I could hardly hear it over the music. I could barely hear my partner trying to speak to me. The music didn't stop until 2 am (not sure what the 11:30 pm closing hours on Google were about). I worked on a measly 4-hour sleep until late the next day, and it was brutal. It definitely didn't FEEL like a 700$ stay. The most frustrating part was that a lot of work has obviously gone into making the suites beautiful and making the stay enjoyable. Huge TVs, fireplace, new high-end appliances, dishwasher, high-speed internet, etc., but all of that is pointless if you can't promise a good night's sleep - and it was the Western itself preventing me from getting just that. This could have been a really great place, but I honestly can't recommend it to anyone looking to stay on a weekend.

Please note that this hotel does not offer an elevator, a dedicated check in desk (the restaurant staff take care of this), a view (our room had no windows), or free parking.

I booked a room there to sleep after my friend's 50th birthday. After a long night of festivities, I took a cab down to the hotel around 2:30/3am. The place was closed TIGHT. No one answering the phone, nothing. I took a cab back to my friends house and slept on her floor.Today, I called for my refund, and talked to the hotel manager, who proceeded to YELL AT ME. 'WHO SHOWS UP TO A HOTEL AT 3AM??'. I'd actually worked in a hotel for years, and the answer is LOTS OF PEOPLE for many reasons. I've never actually heard of a hotel that doesn't do late check ins, let alone NOT HAVE ANY STAFF ON SITE AT ALL TIMES!!! This is INSANITY - is this even legal? It said clearly on my check-in info that check in is 'after 3pm' and THATS IT. I demanded a refund, and she yelled at me again. Then she informed me that they don't do refunds. I hung up. This woman was the hotel manager - and it's obvious that this place is a sinking ship. Called the credit card company, and they were literally as dumbfounded as I was after telling them my story. I'm getting my money back. It's sad when poor management destroys a business. Avoid this place.

Excellent room and great service. That includes when we picked up our key/fob and door code at the restaurant. Nice quiet place. We stayed Sunday night, so parking on the street until 9 am Monday was perfect and free, whereas I moved the car in the morning and it was good for another 2 hours. Had a blast at Karaoke all night on the other side of the street further down.

I stayed here on a short business trip where I was only here in the evenings, but if I had to be here more, I would have been quite pleased. This place feels more like an Airbnb than a hotel. The rooms are effectively small apartments. Mine had a full kitchen, including a dishwasher, which I wasn't at all expecting, as well as two big screen TVs. The bed was comfortable and the furniture was njce. The Wifi was also fast and reliable. It's a very old building, but all the rooms have been recently renovated and are very modern. You actually check in at the bar next door and there's no reception desk, but everything went super smooth. The building is secured with FOBs and there are digital code locks in the rooms. You're right on the high street and there are tons of places to eat nearby, plus it's about a 2 minute walk to the train station. The only minor quips I have is that because it's an old building, you will hear noises from the hall and the rooms echo some. Not a big deal to me, but if you're noise sensitive, it might be for you. The shower was good, but also took a while to heat up and I found I had to turn it down a lot during my shower because it will heat up significantly after a couple minutes. You get a crazy amount for your money staying here, much more than many chain hotels. If I'm back in Guelph, I'll definitely be staying here.

The gentleman from the next door restaurant has an envelope for you with a fob. Your room has a nice big TV and parking is free about a w minute walk

This was our 2nd stay at this hotel and this time our unit (305) was much larger than our first stay. Very comfortable. The only negatives are the music from the bar could be heard and the AC unit is in the living room so the bedroom is not as cool. Otherwise the location is amazing.

Easily the most embarrassing level of customer service I’ve ever encountered in hundreds of hotel stays in my business career. I exited the hotel around midnight to go for a walk and came back at 1 AM realizing I had forgotten my key fob. The phone number for after hours help went directly to voicemail, and it was not even the voicemail for the individual listed on the hotel window. I called the main hotel line and eventually after a long wait a sales agent answered and told me there was no way to get into the building until 3pm the next day. She told me the site is not managed whatsoever and explained it was my own fault for not bringing “all of my things” with me when I left the room. It’s hard to believe in 2023 a business like this could still exist. I’ve literally sat in the street for 5 hours now and have no idea when I will be able to retrieve my belongings. Pathetic.

Nice and clean rooms. Nice location. Free parking doesn't look very safe. Very loud music downstairs shaking the whole bedroom so forget about sleeping...had to go sleep in my car

Excellent location Downtown Guelph, smack bang in the middle of life. Stayed at the penthouse, amazing setup and rooms, so spacious you could hold a wedding reception -jk...but truly a lot of space. Just two down sides, the bedroom on the far left has the AC vent blocked by the wall mounted TV which can make the room incredibly warm even if the AC has been cranked up. And there's no elevator which means umpteen stairs to the PH, so make sure you're in a somewhat active state before you go. Otherwise, it's a super room...the robes, the supremely soft pillows, the TVs in every room, the A1 master bedroom, super luxurious. Oh yes, parking is a problem, but there's a car park at the end of the road which is basically free on weekends.
