MTL Detours - Montreal Walking Tours

We had a wonderful walking tour of old Montreal. Our guide showed us many historic, cultural and even hidden places of great interest. One of the funnest was the hidden speakeasy right in the middle of old town! You’ll have to take the tour to find out about it, but it opens at 5 pm and is packed by 5:30! Great cocktails to complete an afternoon tour. Thanks.

Excellent, learned the important things about the history of Montreal old city, explained so that I could remember it to relate to my grandkids. Our guide was delightful and clearly loves her job. List of restaurants and sites to spend my time at was invaluable The guided walk made my afternoon following the tour one of of the best days of our Canada trip. My wife and I were on a walking tour of Old Montreal on Dec 29 in the afternoon on a relatively warm (40 degrees F) winter day. We enjoyed the tour, learning about the buildings and the history of Montreal. At the end, we were comfortable finding our way around Old Montreal ourselves. Martin made the tour fun and provided a good introduction to the main points of interest and much of the architecture. The tour was kept small and required a reasonable amount of easy walking. Including walking from and back to our hotel, we walked roughly five miles. Martin provided restaurant suggestions and vivid descriptions of the local cuisine. I would highly recommend this tour as an introduction to Old Montreal. After the tour was over, at Martin's recommendation, we visited a nearby store to get hot cocoa and the sailor's chapel. At his advice, we also visited the Crew Cafe to see the interior and the Archeological Museum.

We loved our tour. Having no knowledge of the history of Montreal, I wanted to do something that would tell me about it. This was perfect. 2 hours, not too long, but enough to gain an idea of how Montreal came about. Our guide, Martin, was great. His local lifelong knowledge was exactly what I was hoping for. It was pretty warm that day and he always was very thoughtful about where we stopped, to try to keep us in the shade as much as possible. He is obviously very proud of his city and made it fun to walk around and hear about the architecture and society that led us to today in Montreal. Great tour.

Words alone cannot fully express how wonderful this experience was. Amelie our tour guide was exceptional. No question was left unanswered and her knowledge of the city and its history was enjoyable to listen to. If in Montreal and looking for an Old Montreal experience to remember this tour is well worth your time and money.

Marie was a lovely and knowledgeable tour guide. She had a breadth of knowledge about Montreal and its history. It was a bonus that the group was limited to only 10. It felt like an intimate tour.

We signed up for the Old Montreal walking tour with MTL Detours, and could not be happier with our tour and the entire experience. As an old tour guide myself it's not hard for me to tell whether the guide is on their game, can keep the groups attention, and enjoys their work; our guide, Amelie, was truly one of the best I've ever seen. Clear about the history, dates, and important moments of Montreal history, without reciting it like it came out of a book. She made our tour exciting by connecting the various cultural influences of Montreal's history to present day in a compelling and entertaining way. Really appreciated her efforts as she never let up. 5 stars all the way!

Ask for Tom, he was great. Easy to understand, very knowledgable, patient on timing (never felt rushed and answered multiple qs).So knowledgeable on the history of the city, the people / culture and so much more.
