I used to work at the Ren's in Oakville (but left because of the toxicity of the workplace environment) so I did not want to go to that location and went to the Heartland one in Mississauga. I went to look for a new harness for my dog and while I was there I had trouble adjusting the straps while trying a size on him. Austin came and helped me with the straps - My dog, is reactive and Austin was so great and gentle with him while helping us and even gave my dog awesome head scratches! I really appreciate when people take the time out to be patient with my dog. When we were at check out I was chatting with Caitlin (I hope I spelt her name right) Alex and Kimberly and each of them were so understanding of and they absolutely loved my dog. Everyone who I encountered today at the Heartland location is so nice, knowledgeable and kind! From working at the Oakville location and dealing with their bullying and lack of knowledge was such a refreshing change walking into the Heartland store! HIGHLY recommend!

Ren’s Pets is definitely my #1 choice when it comes to shopping for my dog. In my opinion they carry better brands and more variety to choose from, especially when it comes to grooming products and raw food. All the staff are very nice and helpful but I want to give a special mention to Taylor. I switched my dog over to raw and was trying out different brands, it was all new to me and a little overwhelming with all the options to pick from. Taylor explained to me differences between the brands as well as other customers’ experiences with them (returns and recalls). She was very patient and thorough in answering all my questions regarding protein rotation, supplementation, pure vs gourmet formulas, potential allergies to certain meats, etc. She made it so much easier for me! Always a great experience here

Someone recommended raw performance food for my dog, I bought the whole package, which has different flavors. My dog loved it. Just the gourmet beef flavor made him vomit.I went back to buy some more, and I explained myself, trying to switch beef flavor, which cost more for a chicken, but there was a no,no answer from the staff at the heartland location.I went to petvalu, and they gave me a free sample of bigcountryraw, my dog really like it. I will continue buying from them.GOOD BYE REN'S sometimes you have to listen to your customers, I went there because of someone who recommended it, but I won't do the same.

The staff at this Heartland location are the absolute best! We have recently been going through a ‘picky eating’ phase with our Lab and have been back and forth about 4x in the passed few weeks. The staff has been so patient and understanding with our frustrations and have gone over and above to help us find something that will work best for our dog. Big shout out to Nathaniel!! He has been a life saver and all his knowledge has really helped make such a difficult time as manageable as possible.

One of the best pet stores around! They have a large selection of food and supplies for dogs, cats, and small animals like birds and rodents. This includes a wall of freezers for raw food which means they have a bunch of options. The staff is very friendly and everyone clearly loves pets! I love that I'm supporting a Canadian company that has many Canadian-made items for sale. Our go-to stop for everything we need for our pets (see photo for our sweet boy, Tucker).

This store has been my go-to since my dog was a pup. The first day we got him, we came here to stock up on all the essentials. Food/toys/enrichment activities everything. My husband and I have been to MANY Rens Pet depots within the GTA…any time we see one we go in. And I have to say, customer service-wise, knowledge-wise, inventory - it does not compare to Heartland. We go there so often that the staff literally empty their treat containers for Hondo and is we’re treated so well. The level of knowledge about their products is above the basics. When we decided to transition him to raw, although I’ve done it in the past, it has been a while and I didn’t realize a lot of things have changed. We got the most informative rundown of all the brands in the span of 20 mins which helped us gauge which would be the best for him. I will continue to support this location and continuously vouch for them as they are my FAV pet store

Edited for update: The store manager had reached out to me about my 1-star experience at this location and offered to make things right. I had brought my dog to this location again for a nail trim, and the team lead was great in providing the service and honouring the promotion that was previously missed.Previous review:I have visited many Ren’s Pets locations across the GTHA (North York, Vaughan, Oakville, Burlington, Waterdown) and the Heartland location is by far, the worse for customer service. Of course there are a few good employees depending on the day/time you go, but there are a few individuals that will make your shopping experience with your pet less than desirable.Anytime I bring my dog, I joke with my partner that it’s a random roulette chance on who the employee is and whether my dog will get a treat. More often than not, my dog is just completely ignored and not given a treat, and no friendly conversation - just check out items and pay even when it’s not busy. Pet stores are known by pet owners to be one of the few places to bring their dog with them and have them feel special, even if it’s just a small treat. With this kind of experience, I might as well have just ordered online, or go to a different location that seems to care about pets.I also had recently inquired about a Rens Pets promotion that was sent to my email and plastered on a sign at the store. When I asked the employee about said promotion, I was told they had “no idea what it is about” but that I could show them. Which is ironic because literally there is a poster in the store that is the same as the email - and how is it expected that the customer know more about the promotion than the employee?? There was also an event at this specific Rens Pets location at the cashier which I inquired about. Same response. Employee said did not know anything about event, it was just put up the day before and they had no idea. Are the employees at this location not briefed on what is advertised or happening at the store level?Lastly, after some back and forth the employee finally had to ask the store manager for clarification. Because it did not seem like this location honoured the promotion, I was hesitant to proceed with my order. The employee curtly said “okay while you think about it, I’ll serve the next customer” immediately and starts to ring up the person behind me. Of course, I would not want to hold up any customers waiting behind me, but I was off-put by how it was presented. Certainly if the employee asked if it was possible to serve the next customer while I thought about it or see how they could help with the situation, I would have done so.tl;dr Unless you are extremely close to Heartland Rens Pets, and you do not care for customer service and/or getting a treat for your dog, go to any other Rens Pets location or pet store. I will actively drive further to avoid here.
