Contemporary Calgary

I visited Calgary for a few days and was specifically looking to see if they had any art museums or galleries that I would be interested in. I came across this place in one recommendation site and I decided I’d like to visit, especially because they were having a Diane Arbus exhibit! It’s very cheap to visit, only $10 Canadian. There was also a virtual auction happening so I was able to see quite a few contemporary Canadian artists works. The Diane Arbus exhibit was spectacular. They also have a small gift shop. Unfortunately, I travel really light (carry on bag only) and there wasn’t a magnet available (my typical easy to travel with souvenirs) but I did buy two books that I could squeeze into my bag. Anyway, this place is a treasure! If you visit Calgary, put it on your list!

The best art gallery in the province!Don’t be deceived by the old and forgotten look of the building exterior. This museum was amazing and hopefully will get more funds and sponsorships.We paid $10-12/day on a Sunday afternoon. It was quiet and not too many people. There were plenty of thought-provoking exhibits inside and we’re so lucky enough to witness Luke Jerram’s ‘Museum of the Moon’ exhibit. Defined coming back later this year for Yoko Ono’s exhibit!

Great space, interesting exhibits and wonderful staff. A real gem in the West End downtown.

We absolutely love this space. We enjoy the various exhibitions, and the perspective film series they have put on in their beautiful theatre.Their annual membership fees are so inexpensive [$20 Individual] [$40 Dual] [$50 Family]. Also, just launched, check out their new Culture Club membership for young art enthusiasts in their 20s–40s.The building is absolutely phenomenal and worth visiting. The staff and volunteers are all top notch.We would HIGHLY recommend.

Love this place. The nostalgia is always great, as I remember going to the Science Centre/Planetarium as a kid. But as someone who loves art galleries, it couldn't have been a more amazing takeover. I have an annual pass and I adore coming. I love it as an event space as well!

Really nice exhibits. They change every few months which is nice.

I enjoyed the art experience. A great excuse to get out of the house and meet a friend to enjoy art and conversation.

The old planetarium building is the star of the show! What an amazing space. The temporary exhibits were fantastic! However, there is so much unused space in there. Fill those walls and floors up with some paintings, installations, and sculptures! I’m sure there’s tonnes of local and Canadian artists who would love to contribute.

Great redesign of the old Science Centre. The use of the various rooms, and unique architecture design, is wonderful. The planetarium is super cool and an alright place for a small performance space.
