The River Trading Company

Great selection and prices. Never really know what you'll find here. I've always gone with a couple things in mind--sometimes I've found them, sometimes not. But even when I don't find what I intended, I still leave having found something else. I think The River is also set apart from other stores by how well it's organized. Everything is arranged by genre and in alphabetical order by author's last name. I've found a lot of used bookstores are sort of chaotic with everything thrown wherever. Not the case here.The two owners are also very friendly and knowledgable. And there are very social cats here. I like this place.

As a lover of books, and in particular independent used book stores, The River Trading Company is one of the best I’ve ever been in. Their selection is wide ranging and the prices are the lowest I’ve ever seen in a used book store.Also, the store cat is a 10/10.

Hits that spot between very clean, very orderly and delightfully cluttered with tons of beautiful old books (new ones too). That book smell. A couple elegant tabbys lounging in the sun. Bibliophiles, this is a place for you.

I could spend hours in this store! They have a wide selection for every genre. I found several books and authors here that I couldn’t find elsewhere. The couple that own the store are lovely and knowledgeable. They have two cats in the store (for those with allergies to be aware of).Books are reasonably priced. The store is well maintained and very well organized.A pleasure to shop there. Can’t wait to visit again!

My favorite used bookstore in Hamilton! Always appreciate the variety (especially the manga and cookbooks!) and the cats are so sweet. The owners are very friendly!

Great little used book shop! Good prices and selection, books are good quality. The layout is fun, with small rooms at the back with more books!

There's something magical about The River Trading Company. It's the place you go if you're a lover of books. You could easily spend an hour browsing through the huge selection of quality books. I picked up 10 books for less than the price I would pay for two new hard covers. Super knowledgeable staff. Plenty of choices for whatever you love to read.

It is not a well-known fact that Hamilton has the best used bookstores in Ontario. This place is a fine example: and who would have guessed ? It's in the midst of the most poverty-stricken, decrepit neighbourhood in the city, with decaying boarded-up storefronts all around.And yet inside ! It isn't large, but very neat and well-organized. There are walls full of books, mostly reasonably-priced, with many hardcovers as well.There are sections for art, design, fashion, regional, historic, there are collectors' comic books (the Classics comics I used to read as a kid !), an up-to-date non-fiction section (sociology, psychology, philosophy, social criticism), fiction anthologies, back issues of literary magazines, weird science, mythology, religion, folklore, literary fiction, historical fiction, history, classics. And the highlight (for those so inclined) a massive and mouthwatering collection of fantasy, s-f, and speculative fiction, including rare collectors' items, anthologies and graphic novels. I would hesitate to review the place because I wouldn't want too many others to find out about it ... but what the heck ! I do want them to stay in business, and there are already 86 other reviews !

A welcoming environment, excellent selection, and good prices. Small book stores with this kind of quality is a rarity these days. I'll definitely be going back.

Wonderful staff, cute cats, and a unique selection! A bright place to spend your afternoon. Vintage prints, small crafts, and puzzles complement the books well. Enjoyed my time here greatly.
