Marino's Your Independent Grocer Sechelt

I have mainly just a couple of concerns which are actually scary:1. the floors are always dirty. The food scattered everywhere, pieces of packaging and paper. I do not think I ever saw a store in BC that dirty. Serious health risk - what if someone slipp? What about safety as some of the food I have seen on the floors is rotten. Do they even clean the floors? if they dont - do they clean the shelves?2. the nuts are always stale. I am not saying a bit stale, I am saying rotten, bitter, smell of mold stale. Those which are packaged by the store. Again, serious health risk.3. at that sushi or deli section actually has tasty food but ... with store that dirty I always question food safety of people working there.I love the store as its a single cheap option on the Lower Sunshine coast. I have a service dog and I am afraid she might pick up something there and eat something she should not. She acts confused in that store its so dirty. Confused as she knows she is not supposed to grab anything from the floor but I think she cant believe its a public place. Today one lady stopped seeing my dog trying to catch a smell and said - sad when the dog finds the store filthy... not saying much about the store, is it?

Nice to have a store as big as this in this small of a community. Prices are higher than I would like but I guess that is coast living and our terrible economy in Canada for that. I must say the layout of the store leaves A LOT to be desired. I would like to see their middle clothing isles moved to where their pharmacy products are and the pharmacy products moved to the organic sections and the organic and other groceries into that middle area. It would make the store flow so much better. The middle clothing section becomes a cart jam up and hardly ever see anyone in those isles. I have heard others grumble about that section being so big and in the way really of grocery shoppers. They could even extend that one middle row in the middle section to be a full row and it would allow for more groceries and the clothing being where the pharmacy stuff is will make that so at the end of every row it's in people's face so they still get drawn to it. Usually very clean store. Always busy workers stocking shelves and friendly smiles or help when they can. Love how they occasionally take produce that is going to go off soon and make fresh pressed juicing bottles. Excellent way to use up some veggies and fruits. Need more of it. Their ready made meals and deli section is pretty good too. Their baking and bread products leave something to be desired. But I have found every grocery store along the coast has that problem. I buy bulk when in Vancouver and freeze it.

Excellent price on beef when on sale. Last year I bought a whole AAA tenderloin for $8.99 a pound.

Surprised today that when my wife went to go to try on a clothing item to see it fits that a staff member would come to you stating you can not do that due to safety reasons. I find it strange as in a clothing store you may but not at this store. Maybe if they are that concerned about safety they should not be selling clothing them. OMG

We used to enjoy these Raspberry Cream filled horns, until they stopped putting cream in them. I kind of ignored it the first time but will no longer purchase till issue is resolved. An inch of fill at either end then 4 inches of hollow doesn't cut it."

In the last year this store has become so much cleaner, better organized, many awesome product displays, shelves well stocked, good pricing, more product selections, and friendly staff. Well done!! So much nicer than it was a few years ago.

It can get pretty busy here. Sometimes checking out can be stressful but the staff are attentive and helpful. Things are a lot better now that management has decided on a permanent store layout and labels are consistently placed.

It is always clean. The staff are friendly. I wish we could find more workers like the one at Independent Grocers. I like the selection of vegetables and the ready made salads. They are adding more premade dinners to the deli department which is convenient. I wish I could always find Nestle's Splash for sale. Somebody must keep stocking up.

This store has actually become a pleasant shopping experience in the past year. They’ve improved by leaps and bounds! I appreciate the extra effort to merchandise in the produce section and the fact that they’ve increased their imported grocery section is impressive. Keep up the good work!
