EF International Language Campus - English courses in Cambridge
I went to a 6 month course in 2016.Pro: classmates were lovely, the teachers are good. My English improved.Cons: Super expensive. They are one of the most expensive courses but they pay their host family the least. This means they attract bad families and people. I had a mentally abusive host, she would freak out if I moved the curtains in the living room because I was not allowed to move anything in the house, we could not use the stove nor the oven as she claimed we were stupid. She would prepare the bowl of cereal the night before and hide the box so that we could not eat too much of it. (While paying thousands a month we were only given a small portion of Tesco cereal for breakfast). She spent most of the time explaining how she hates Italians, Mexicans, Chinese, Thai, Spanish, ( while hosting international students).I had friends that stayed in host houses where they spoke no English, where they forgot to get fed, where the host insulted them. I had many friends that had to get moved because the houses were disgusting. Hosts are note required to do maintenance nor cleaning. There are no standards and because they pay the host families so little they attract money hungry people not people that enjoy having these students. The ones that had a good time at home were only a very lucky few.The houses of these people are really far away and the transport choices are: rent a bike (conveniently overpriced) or pay for busses (also extremely expensive). I worked ou the bike was cheaper and busses do not run at night so a bike would be more convenient. You will not get to experience “city center life”, you will live 45 minutes away from any bar, club or fun thing to do. Alternatively you can pay 1000£ pounds EXTRA to get a student accommodation if you are over 18. If you are a minor you are stuck. Absolutely do not send minors because they will be abused by these families. The lunch is extremely limited (a few types of wraps and sandwiches) and obviously it is very expensive £4/5 for a small wrap that leaves you hungry. Around the school there is almost nothing so you are kind of forced to eat there since the lunch time is only 45 min.The dinner was precooked by my host, 200grams of overcooked pasta with a tin of tuna… overcooked rice with sweetcorn, frozen oven food…. I paid thousands to be hungry and get fatter (sugary cereal in the morning, a fatty wrap for lunch, and depressing pasta at night).Everything was extra and required money. Nothing is included. Trips are expensive, OVERLY EXPENSIVE.EF went to Edinburgh and the cost was roughly 100£ a day for 3 days. I went on my own and spent 100£ in 3 days. They really see the kids as cash cows.Absolutely would never suggest anyone to go to EF cambridge. Disgusting money centred company. They are this big because they are great at marketing but they are horrendous with people.

I spent the best 3 weeks of my life on the EF course. I've met wonderful people from all over the world and it's really hard for me to say goodbye to them. I managed to break the language barrier, and thanks to lessons with wonderful, competent teachers, I learned more than in all my years at school.

I organised the trip for my nephew (15yo) to come over during the summer. I found it to be quite a mess of an organisation - outdated, complicated forms, had to chase them quite often to ask for details on his stay, he did not get the promised" welcome package so he did not know where to be

Had an amazing experience at EF. It is pricey but 100% worth it. You’ll meet a lot of students and (most of) the hostfamilies are really kind and helpful. During my stay it was really busy at the school and the classes were crowded. EF also arranged loads of activities. From going to Peterborough to visiting Brighton for a day. It’s really well planned and we always had fun. For students that are coming to Cambridge, visit the Board game cafe in the city center near Grand Arcade. It’s amazing!

I have learned a lot from studying in Cambridge, such as how to travel alone and communicate in English. The people here are very friendly, and I have also learned good study methods at school. The environment here is especially nice, and the lunch is great too. Every meal in my host family's home is particularly delicious. Thank you to the Robert family.
