And suddenly, there it was. Again! The bane of my existence. Arguably the bane of every business owner’s existence: the infamous 1-star Google review taunting me with its scathing and vehement 13-word objection to my existence, bent upon throttling my good name and reputation. The worse thing about this mockery was the fact that the name attached was unknown — non-existent within my client database and my entire contact sphere. It was a bogus review designed to harm my business. I stewed for a moment crest-fallen and frustrated, contemplating the lengthy, professional and polite rebuttal I would inevitably have to craft, devoid of the anger and sarcasm that was brewing in my soul. Of course, I would report this and hope that the Google bots and algorithms would see it for what it was and blot the stain from my profile; but like the last fake review from ten months past, I expected my pleas would fall upon deaf ears.Then I remembered Alison. The Foggy Lemon. She is a certified Google pro, I thought, perhaps she’ll have a suggestion or know what to do. I dialed my phone. Alison answered and we chatted about my predicament. She was a fountain of knowledge and bestowed a plethora of good advice, suggestions and best-practices. Things I needed to implement. I explained about the walls I hit when attempting to deal with the last bogus one-star and asked if there was anything she could do to help that might yield a better result. She reported it to the Google partner’s division, as this account had been created within the last 3 days with the apparent intention of writing poor reviews. Ali then schooled me on certain key phrases that should appear in my reply that would trigger the algorithms in my favour!I was elated to see the bogus 1-star review had disappeared by the time I had finished reviewing Ali’s input and advice! “What kind of magic is this?” I thought, “The wonderful kind.” So no I find myself penning a lengthy ode to the prowess of an excellent business, The Foggy Lemon, and it’s dedicated, thoughtful, proactive and fearless leader Alison Mysiorek.- Tallis Newkirk March 2020
