Allan's Fireside Grill

I've been to this place several times but mostly for larger functions in the party room that is available upstairs. Even with little notice they were able to take care of us. On my recent visit, I sat down stairs in the restaurant. The waitress was cheerful, knowledgeable and there to take care of our needs. She explained the specials and recommended a starter, Fireside Stix that were incredible. I had the Fireside Sirloin that was prepared just the way I like it. The restaurant had a good vibe that made dinner very enjoyable.

Do not order the steak. It is the worst steak we have ever had. Thin and terrible tasting and severely overcooked. We ordered medium well but it was like shoe leather and just as thin.I wish we would have taken a pic of it. Disgusting. The service was ok but she never came to check on us until we were finished even though it was not busy.The server went to the manager with our concern and he refused to do anything about it. We have just moved to the area and have been here a couple of times but will not be returning.

Just finished a dinner for 2 by our server/ waitress Ema. Words can not say enough about how well we were treated. Our drinks arrived and our orders were taken. Before we had 2 sips gone our two 2 piece fish and chips were delivered hot and cooked to perfection. I've rated her several times now and have never been disappointed but tonight was the best so far. Packed restaurant and service that quick and friendly was greatly appreciated. Thanks again. Allan’s is a Fave for our group dinners and when I have family in town. The service is always great and so is the food. I love the summer side citrus salad (I add seafood) and also the balsamic chicken. The fireside sticks are a guilty pleasure of mine as well. I’m not a steak fan but I hear they are incredible. Cocktails are always tasty from experienced bar staff. Definitely check it out.

Nothing in Port Elgin can beat Allan’s Fireside, great food and service every time.The best smoked ribs!! Wings or burgers with a drink on the patio during the summer is a quality town experience. Do not miss this spot if you’re passing through!!!!

I usually never write reviews for a restaurant because I understand no business would strive for a negative review. If the service or food is bad anywhere - it could be a personal liking and people should experience for themselves to make an opinion about the place and hence I do not give reviews . I have been to Allan’s many times and always had a good time there. But for the first time in 10 years, I had to write about my experience with the manager of the place. If I had an option to give negative stars I would have done that because the manager definitely earned it. He was taking care of the seating arrangement and was extremely rude and full of attitude and arrogance. I would never go back to this place just because of him and have nothing towards the restaurant itself. If a restaurant wants to hire a person like him and keep him in the front with such an attitude - my sympathies are with the owner of the restaurant.We were a party of 11. I had called to make reservations the previous day (June 14th, 2023 @6pm) and the lady on the phone said no reservations were being accepted for the summer and they only did walk ins. I again wanted to make sure if a party of 11 could be accommodated easily if we walked in and the lady was confident enough to say we will surely be seated no matter how big the party is. I hoped the lady would have cautioned us there could be chances of a long wait. We would have planned in a better way to go to another place and not take a chance of waiting. But the lady was so confident we would get a table easily. So without a doubt we stuck to our plans of going to Allan’s.The next day ( June 15th, 2023 @6pm) we go there for dinner and the first host (a polite guy) said we have 2 large groups who have been booked and hence the wait would be an hr. I was taken aback as it looked like reservations were being accepted and asked if I could speak to the manger because I was told no reservations were being accepted and wanted to know why our reservation wasn’t accepted. The manager came with full attitude and arrogance and I questioned why we weren’t given better information regarding the availability/ reservation of the table. And his reply with absolute arrogance was ‘we can’t do anything about it, there are 2 large groups booked so it’ll be an hr wait and yes we are not taking reservations’ with a blank face. He basically indicated you can go elsewhere if you wish. None of their reasoning made sense. There was absolute no politeness, no apologies for misleading information given over the phone call/ in person. If this is the way a manager treats the customers he is definitely in the wrong place and I really hope he wasn’t the owner too. Anyways, it’s a never going back there for me only because I do not want to face such an unpleasant person ever !!!

Went to this restaurant with a group of 7 on a Friday night, we didn't wait at all to get a seat. Sat on the patio, atmosphere was adequate, music was too quiet to hear, but there was some nice trees hanging over the patio providing shade. Service was good, ordered spinach dip and french onion soup to start, both felt very much like a frozen dinner dish, french onion soup was sweet like sugar and spinach dip tasted like hot cream cheese and not much else. I had the beef dip sandwich which was mostly fat and chewy chunks of meat that I was unable to tear from the sandwich, I didn't finish my meal. Most of the meals felt like TV dinner meals, I would not come here again.

We chose to eat here on Christmas eve as the guest services agent at our motel told us about this place.The previous night we had a very bad experience at a pub restaurant downtown.We were seated quickly beside the fireplace and given menus. We were asked right away for our beverage choices.It was quite busy at the bar and in the restaurant. Everyone seemed to know each other and it felt like they may have been family.It was a warm and friendly atmosphere. We felt welcome. If we were to dine again, we would most likely choose a table away from the bar area as the language was not always the best.I ordered garlic bread to start, which was delicious, and a blue cheese topped AAA burger. The burger was hands down the best I ever had, compliments to the chef. The Caesar salad was amazing!Would eat here over and over again.

The place was super busy, but in a good, bustling way. Seemed to be full of happy locals. I had a veggie Power Bowl. Was quite good. Husband had balsamic chicken - also good. I had my first margarita - wasn't as tasty as I'd expected, but it was yummy. Booth atmosphere was nice. Super fast service.

Been here many times. Always great service. I had never tried their wings before, but I’m glad I did. They were absolutely Delicious! Great owner! Met him twice or so. Always happy. Jumps right in and works with his staff.
