Gardens of Gethsemani Catholic Cemetery

My family began buying plots at the Gardens of Gethsemani in 1985 and we were able to secure several in a row. There were two compelling reasons for choosing this cemetery. Firstly, Msgr. Nunzio Defoe the founder of the cemetery was a close friend of the Comey family and the second is that it is a Catholic cemetery. Even though many of us have lived in North Vancouver and now others are living throughout the lower mainland, the Gardens of Gethsemani is our choice to be interred together as we waiting for the coming of our Saviour on Resurrection Day.Over the years I have been involved in burials of nine family members and several close friends. The staff, after care have have been very helpful and compassionate. The facilities and grounds are well cared for and constantly improving. The Gardens of Gethsemani has been a blessing to our family and the Archdiocese of Vancouver.

I interacted with one staff member regarding my mother, but she was outstanding, Mary McDaniel. The level of service and compassion shown exceeded my expectations. I also met the lead groundskeeper who was very knowledgeable about trees and plants located on site. Our family chose Gardens of Gethsemani because many family friends are there and it is blessed as a Catholic Cemetery. The grounds are well groomed and it is a fitting final resting location for my mom. I highly recommend this cemetery and staff to anyone not sure about where they want to be when their time comes.

Excellent. Patient. Professional. Compassionate. And so much more. Every single staff member at Gardens was committed to helping our family after a sudden death of our loved one. They understood the difficulties of the decisions we had to make, and gave us the space to make decisions that were best for our family. The burial ceremony was done with the most beautiful respect for our grieving family. Looking back, we now share that priceless memory and remark at how well cared for we felt on that day. I am so grateful to know how deeply the staff care for the community when I go back and visit our family members grave. It is felt in the beautiful way they keep the grounds, to the reverence and warmth with which we are greeted.

My experience with Gardens of Gethsemane have been entirely positive. At every step of the process, from our initial purchase of our grave-site to the burial of my beloved spouse Maria was entirely well done, and with the greatest amount of care and compassion. Their demeanor and their willingness to care for details is unsurpassed by any other encounter I had during this time of loss. Only Kearney Funeral homes reflected the same care and attention as the staff at Gethsemane gardens. I know when my time comes that my remains will be treated respectfully.

The grounds are beautiful and gives me great peace to know that my mom is laid to rest here in her favourite place by the Good Shepherd. The care of the staff is greatly appreciated and received. Even the groundskeepers exhibited such respect and care during the burial ceremony. I look forward to visiting my mom now, knowing that she was and continues to be well looked after here. Gardens of Gethsemani Catholic Cementery was my choice after researching several cemeteries in the lower mainland. Having considered the quality, the location and the value of the price I pay, I decided with Garden of Gethsemani as my mother's final resting place. I think I made the right decision.

Mary was very helpful and caring during our saddest time when we lost our Mom. We were able to secure a lot at a beautiful spot in the Garden in a very short period of time. I purchased my spot too. My family flew in from different parts of the world to spend the last few days with my Mom. There was a small window of time before they had to fly back home and the Garden of Gethsemani was able to accommodate the burial service within the time frame. The Garden's staff takes such good care of the place. It is indeed a beautiful garden where I go every week to pray, chat and be in silence with my Mom. I see many families visiting regularly as well and they also gather around their loved ones to enjoy the peace this place brings. I appreciate they have a memorial mass on the last Sunday of every mass. I find it helps with healing. I am forever grateful to the staff at the Garden and to the Archdioceses of Vancouver for providing such a beautiful and affordable resting place to the faithful and their loved ones.

With a sudden death, we were not prepared and had to find a funeral home and plot all at once! A family friend recommended Gardens of Gethsemani and from the beginning they were very empathetic and so competent. They really helped our family in choosing the perfect resting place for my Mom; one that I know she would have loved. Special thanks to Mary for all her help!

Professional and compassionate is how I would describe the service I received from the personnel at Garden of Gethsemani. Patti Adams offered many options to us, she was friendly and personable. The ground staff person was attentive and provided caring and good service. This is an excellent resting place for my beloved parents and I am glad I chose this cemetery. If possible, please allow the families to retain their flower/plant/candle holders. Thank you.
