Went for dinner to Koo Izakaya after reading the great reviews and I must say I was blown away by the food. The place is located withing the Courtyard of historic Pickering Village. The service was good and the food was made to order and served very quickly.We tried a variety of dishes including karaage (japanese fried chicken), Gyoza, Spicy Salmon Roll and the sashimi sushi maki combo. They were complimented with wasabi, ginger flakes, soy sauce. The food was great and delightful. We paired it with hot sake and house wine. I loved the spicy salmon roll the most. Excellent place to try japanese food.

As many others have noted. The food was fresh and good. Food came out fairly quick. Will be back so will post edits in the future.Pictures of food below, we got the medium sushi and Maki set. Salmon tataki and the matcha cheesecake that I forgot to take a photo of.

This place was amazing and we really enjoyed the food, the staff and the vibe. We got the Veggie Green Dragon Roll!Overall we would give this a 4/5 for portion, 5/5 for taste and 5/5 for presentation. For portion we are giving it a 4/5 just case we wanted more, but nothing wrong with the size they gave. For taste, no complaints this was made so well and delicious. The ingredients were all fresh and awesome to taste and the way they wrapped the avocado over the sushi was probably the best use and made it easier to eat. Finally for presentation, it was simply beautiful, and like i said the use of ingredients and quality of ingredients tied in with their skill was awesome and we loved it!

First time visit this restaurant in Durham, not the authenticated type of Japanese restaurant, but may consider the best in Ajax. Don't expect top quality fish but acceptable, sushi rice is a bit disappointed, tapas tasted good, I personally like the tuna tataki, unagi kabayaki and buttered squid, overall price was reasonable and matched with the quality of food. Comfy environment to dine and chat. I do enjoyed the stay

This restaurant call our attention for a celebration. Mostly classic Japonese dishes, a lot of varieties and presentations and very few of other asian dishes. We enjoyed different dishes but mostly sushi and japonese beer(sapporo). It seems that they have sake (cool and warm) Japonese whiskey and other drinks. We have a good time. Good service. We would like to come back.

Food is delicious and fresh. Only one missing star is for the fried shrimp in the red dragon roll. I was a little bit disappointed at the fried shrimp, it was too dry and small so the panko flavour and texture were more than the shrimp, but others were pretty good. I still want to visit/order more in the future and recommend it to friends.

After seeing all the great reviews I decided to give this place a shot. It’s located right inside Pickering village for those who might get lost.The appetizers were all very good! The gyoza was the highlight of the apps.The sushi itself is so soft and really melts in your mouth. The salmon lover set is a must if you enjoy salmon.The atmosphere is great and the staff are very friendly. I’ll for sure return

This sushi place is challenging to find, located inside a courtyard. Google will bring you to the parking lot, but you will not see the restaurant until you go inside the courtyard.The sushi was good, but not great. The plating was very nice. The edamame was exceptional; just the right temperature, crunchy and sprinkled with course salt. The salmon sashimi was really good, but could have been served a bit colder for better texture.I would normally have given this 4 stars but the atmosphere made you feel like the place wasn’t completed. Boxes of inventory was stacked against one wall, and the bar has a shelf built out of framing lumber.This place has potential.

The atmosphere is so wonderful. The staff were very attentive as well. The food was delicious and if you like kpop all they played was girl groups and female soloists, all recent music too.
