Italian with Sabrina

I studied with Sabrina for almost four years during high school. It was simultaneously one of the most enjoyable and beneficial experiences I have ever had, both on an interpersonal level and on an academic level. In fact, the only reason I stopped taking lessons was because I am now at college and no longer have the time. Sabrina helped me improve my speaking skills exponentially, and she helped me perfect and enhance my grammar and vocabulary as well. I ranked nationally several years in a row on the National Italian Exam and received the highest score in New England on the AP Italian Exam my junior year thanks to her teaching and mentorship. It is clear that Sabrina genuinely cares about the success of her students and knows exactly how to help them achieve it, regardless of their end goal. Also, I genuinely looked forward to my lesson every week, as she is an incredibly effervescent and lovely person to be around. :) I would highly recommend her as a tutor.

After trying to learn Italian on my own for a couple of years (Pimsleur, Duolingo) and making very little progress, I finally broke down and decided to take lessons. So glad I found Sabrina - she is a wonderful teacher and makes learning Italian fun. As a native speaker, she knows what expressions are actually used in living spoken language, which is important for speaking/understanding Italians in Italy. I really enjoy her lessons and made more progress than I could hoped for in 6 months!

I began taking Italian classes with Sabrina through the Concord/Carlisle adult education program about 7 years ago. I was going to be traveling in Italy and wanted to be able to speak and understand a bit of the language. From the first, I was impressed with Sabrina's love of teaching and focus on both conversation and grammar - I wanted to learn more than just a smattering of basic Italian phrases for travelers. I continued with these classes for 3 years (elementary & intermediate), and decided to go 1 step further - I began taking group classes with Sabrina at her home. I welcomed the change in atmosphere, from being in a large, sterile classroom with florescent lights and buzzing air system, to sitting around a table in a comfortable room. I still look forward to my Italian lessons and conversation every week! ... Also, several years ago I participated in one of Sabrina's trips (unusual for me because I'd only ever traveled with my husband or family) and felt it worthwhile both because of Sabrina's determination that the group try to speak only in Italian to increase our fluency, and because of Sabrina's true love of the country. I so appreciate everything Sabrina brings to teaching: her enthusiasm, sense of fun, real grasp of grammar and ability to explain it, and love of her profession.

Having been enchanted by the Italian language for years, I decided to take the plunge and try to learn the language. Little did I know after my first phone call to Sabrina that I had come upon just the right person to teach me. While I don't have an ear for language, I do have a curiosity that Sabrina appreciates and runs with. Sabrina has an enthusiasm for what she's teaching as well as the patience to continue to encourage a novice of the language like me. Like any good teacher, if I don't understand something, she has multiple ways of explaining it until I comprehend. Her enthusiasm is infectious and makes every lesson fun.Sabrina not only teaches grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary, but she also teaches the culture of Italy that only an Italian could. I had the opportunity to travel with her and other students to Puglia, Italy for a week. It was truly the insider's guide to Italy with each day full of new experiences and, of course, only Italian being spoken. What a great way to practice Italian!For anyone considering learning Italian, I highly recommend working with Sabrina.

I have spent the last year taking private Italian classes with Sabrina and I have to say it was really a great experience. Sabrina is patient and takes the time to explain how and why the language is different from English. Learning Italian was difficult at times for me, but I made it through a year with Sabrina's encouragement. If you are serious about learning Italian, I would highly recommend Sabrina. I am SO excited to be working with Sabrina. I have wanted to really LEARN Italian for many years, but several of the other techniques and teachers I worked with weren’t the right “fit”.It seems as if I have learned more in the 5-weeks that I have been working with her, than I did for the past 5-years of trying different methods, different programs, and different philosophies.Sabrina has so much patience, enthusiasm and knowledge for the Italian language and Italy, that it’s impossible to not get caught up in the excitement of learning.The work is hard, and she spends time correcting and explaining mistakes, as well as praising good work. She teaches the basics of grammar, proper pronunciation, idioms and spelling, all while we are having a great time.I would highly recommend Italian with Sabrina for anyone, at any stage of learning from beginners to fluent speakers. Learning is a constant and life-long process!

When I signed up for group classes a little over a year ago, I wasn't sure what to expect. I had taken a few Italian classes in college that were large and quite impersonal, leaving me feeling very frustrated with my progress in speaking and writing. However, classes with Sabrina are very different. With groups of small numbers and with a teacher who is a native speaker, I feel that I have progressed immensely in such a short time.The focus is on conversing with others and to do so in a grammatically correct way. Topics are limitless, yet engaging and informative. A session can include listening to Italian music, interpreting a song, translating recipes, or even watching a video.Sabrina is extremely resourceful, and is keenly aware of every student's strengths and weaknesses.The environment is relaxed. She makes everyone comfortable in speaking at his/her own level and pace. Highly recommend Italian with Sabrina for anyone interested in Italian lessons, no matter what level. I wanted to take lessons to prepare for a family trip to Italy, and not having spoken Italian for many years I needed a refresher. I spent about 7 months taking one on one lessons and I can't think of a better way to get back up to speed.Sabrina made our lessons fun and engaging yet also challenging--but most importantly she really helped with my grammar. I don't think I realized how many mistakes I made when I spoke Italian, and she worked with me to polish my speaking ability. This helped me more than an app or textbook ever could. I really looked forward to my lessons each week, and feel more confident in my Italian now than I have in the past ten years. Thank you Sabrina!

Taking classes with Sabrina instead of using an app is so worth it! Sabrina teaches the foundation of the Italian language and not just words or phrases to have limited conversation. With Sabrina, you can learn to read, write and speak Italian in a warm, friendly environment that encourages you to learn. She is very knowledgeable of the Italian culture as well as the language which allows for a very interesting, well rounded and information packed lesson. She tailors each lesson to your ability and desire to learn. I highly recommend taking lesson with Sabrina!

I have been taking Italian lessons with Sabrina for over 6 months and, with her expert help, am making great progress in refreshing my knowledge of the Italian I learned over 40 years ago! She is fun, charming and it is clear that she loves her students as well as the Italian language and culture. I do too!
