The Local Farm is our sole source of living lettuces. Each lettuce makes a perfect meal for two. Nothing wasted. Grown in hybrid green houses in greater Vancouver (Kettles Road), using organic coconut coir, these living lettuces are not grown in soil, and therefore the growing process uses only 10% of water compared to traditional farming methods. That also means I won't encounter worms! They use organic fertilizers BC Kelp, ancient volcanic ash... i.e. nutrient-dense. I find these lettuces better tasting than the ones I can buy from Granville Island, or living lettuces grown in Alberta. I pick up about four to five each week and keep them in my fridge in cups of water, that means I harvest the leaves minutes before I make my salad.
