Great place

Great location next to the beach in a character house with a wood fireplace. However, a bit expensive and needs updating.

We are a couple in our 60s, this accomodation would be great for families or couples/friends travelling together. Janet has 2 fully furnished houses that include all the basics for self catering. Including a washer and dryer. In the Artist cottage where we stayed a clawfoot tub is included for your soaking pleasure! This home has 2 bedrooms sleeping for 6. You have a view of the mountains and are across from a beautiful beach. The homes face the ocean. There is a playground just down the road. We would definitely choose to stay again.Bring your own groceries or shop at Rona the local grocery hardware store. Locals were friendly and helpful.We had pizza from the Cook Shack and dinner at Pass n Thyme which has an amazing view.We made the most of our 2 day stay by checking out the sights. Totems and carvings around the island, Gator Gardens now known as the Ecological Park, U'mista Centre known for it's amazing collection of repatriated First Nations Art. We also wandered the museum in the back of the town library and got good information from Noreen at the visitor centre. We were also lucky enough to be there 1 of the 2 days the local thrift was open. We also checked out the Artist Loft, full of local craft and Culture Shock a gift and coffee shop.Alert Bay is like stepping back in time to a quieter peaceful time. Standing on the beach I heard seals surface before I saw them and could actually hear the sound of bird's wings as they flew overhead.Don't miss this experience wish I had a few more days here.
