Golden Star Restaurant

We regularly order Chinese food from golden star as it is HANDS DOWN the BEST in the Sarnia area, not to mention the owner, Su and her staff are all very friendly and attentive. They don't use MSG, It is always hot, fresh and delicious!!! We often get take out but eat in is great too. They are often (at dinner time especially) busy because of how good they are, so I recommend you call and order in advanced to ensure you can get your order when you want it. If you're still on a quest for the best Chinese food around, try this place once and you'll love it!!

Absolutely the best Chinese food we have had. Based off the reviews I ordered the orange chicken combination plate with rice and two egg rolls . My wife ordered the chili chicken with the same sides. I'm not quite sure how we only paid $9.99 per plate for this delicious goodness. Not only that we are bringing home leftovers!! Order was quick to arrive to the table. Definitely recommend!

Great food!! A bit pricey but delicious

Went there for take out for the first time. Word to the wise, don't use the menu that has uploaded pictures of the menu, that menu is incorrect and there are new prices and deals. I was disappointed to learn when I got in, that I would be paying more, and getting less (as it turned out the three person meal deal no longer had wings). Also, some of their dishes had nuts, which I wasn't aware of. When I got home, my disappointment turned to joy. The Chinese restaurant I usually go to was taken over by new owners and they couldn't work the same magic. The food from Golden Star was delicious, and it is now my favourite restaurant in that plaza. I've gotten takeout from other places there, and by the time I get home I'd either have soggy sandwiches or a lukewarm pizza. The extra coin was worth it...and there's leftovers for tomorrow's lunch! Will order from there again!

The food was quite disappointing.Like something out of a freezer or old left overs from a chinese buffet.No utensils or napkins in takeout bag.. my english was not understood correctly and the order was wrong, etc.

First time trying this place and was highly disappointed. We ordered chicken fried rice and it smelled fishy and did not taste good at all. And it also tasted really weird. Not like normal chicken fried rice. We also ordered almond soo guy. The gravy was tasteless and very watery. And the chicken was over cooked and also tasted weird. The only good thing about this place was the prices. We will not eat here again!

New owners are nowhere near the quality of the former food. It used to be the very best..Now it is all tasting of fish. It frightened me as I have a shellfish allergy. I tried to ask about the fishy flavour of the chicken balls but the person on the phone had no idea to what I was referring. We will not order again. So sad because this was the best Chinese food anywhere! Now it is mediocre.

We ordered a HUGE amount of food for my wife’s birthday and this restaurant did NOT disappoint. A friend recommended them and we are so glad they did.Big portions and very tasty.

Great or take out. Dine in is great food but ambience is bleak and table service is not their strong suit. Orders on weekends be prepared to wait 60-90 minutes for your order, all food is prepared to order, fresh and hot. It his by far the best Chinese Food in the city. Priced well, f you want chop sticks you need to ask, not supplied otherwise. Recommend the Hot n Sour Soup and Orange Chicken.

The last two times I have bought food there I new something was up as the high quality that I was used to was not there, the food was bland and did not seem as fresh and then I found out that it has a new owner and it all made sense. What a pity !That was 3 years ago but I just tried it again in December or 2022 and a complete turnaround. Excellent food, fresh ingredients and really tasty. Chicken curry, chow mein and veg spring rolls, all excellent. I’ll give it 5 stars. We’ll worth checking out.
