St. Catharines Standard

The Standard used to be one of the top newspapers in all of Canada when it was locally owned. There was always extensive coverage of local news (on Page 9) and interesting movie reviews by one of my Brock film professors. Fortunately, Doug Herod still writes occasionally in his amusing style. Unfortunately, with the SunMedia chain, it looks like a lot of other southern Ontario newspapers and there just isn't as much in it. They have also, for some strange reason, taken to having partial pages which makes it very difficult holding up the paper to read it and then turning the page without the partial page falling away.

The Standard has a great website. It remains a local news choice at my home. They have an excellent User Generated Content area. So glad to see they are keeping up with such modern trends.

The only news paper I use for the bottom of my birds cage cause their droppings actually improve their articles

They don't pay me for my paper route

Local facts really not impressed.
