We bought our shepherd there years had her 12 1/2 years. Lisa and John were awesome. They showed us the parents and grandparents of this dog. She always answered her calls to me she also lifetime guaranteed dogs with genetics. No other breeder did that. We wanted another shepherd from her and we buy the ones that can't be shown, but in 2 years she didn't have what we wanted and she refunded are deposit no problem. My shepherd I had from her lived the longest. I have had shepherd for 45 years.

I recently went to Whistledown Kennels to meet the breeder and see the dogs. I went into the experience knowing that this situation was likely a business that used the dogs as a primary form of income for the owner. However, when I got there and personally saw the conditions the dogs are currently living in I was extremely disappointed and left questioning if these types of conditions were allowing the dogs to thrive in their own life versus just being a puppy producing compound. The female that most recently gave birth to a litter (a little less than 2 months ago) was so emaciated that all of her ribs were visible. At one point while watching this dog walk, I further questioned the health of the dog when it looked like her back legs almost gave out several times getting up one step. The water buckets that I observed within the kennels were frozen over and I did not observe any food dishes, hay for the cold conditions or even a blanket. All the dogs were in dire need for grooming. The conditions of the environment and the dogs appearances were shocking when this breeder is selling dogs at $500-$2500 a piece based off her professional assessment." Based off the amount of dusty ribbons and trophies

I bought my dog there and I have to say, that this breeder is the most knowledgeable breeder/trainer i have met so far. Lisa, the owner, is extremely supportive, and has always answers, when you have question regarding training, health, and behavior of your German Shepherd. If I need another dog, I will buy there again - no question!UPDATE: I bought another puppy from Whistledown, and i stand by my 5 star rating. Seeing a few low ratings, people have to understand that this is NOT a puppy mill. Breeding a great quality dog takes time, knowledge and patience.UPDATE 2020: Kennel closed.

I am writing this on behalf of my parents Albert and Rosemary Embo. My parents go their first German Sheperd Dog from Whistledown Kennel in 1983. That was 36 years ago. They have returned to Lisa Michoff to replace the dogs they have lost six times. They received wonderful, intelligent, and sound dogs. They also found a breeder they could trust. They have never been disappointed.Lisa has continued to produce GSD of the highest standards for over 40 years because she loves the breed. People like ourselves keep returning to her for puppies and dogs because we know we are going to get beautiful well bred and sound dogs.We have found the negative reviews hard to read and untrue about Lisa Michoff and Whistledown Kennel.Lisa has devoted her life to the care and breeding of GSD and would never mistreat them. The kennel is inspected every year by the county and has always PASSED. Dogs who are in the kennels will not look like dogs who live in a house. Dogs who have puppies and are nursing them will need time to get back in form. Lisa has made her dog houses with feeding bins inside the dog house so their food is not in their pen.Lisa's reputation as a reputable caring breeder is not to be questioned. If you are looking for a beautiful sound German Shepherd to fill your home with love then contact Lisa Michoff at Whistledown Kennel. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND them.Sincerely,Albert & Rosemary Embo

We currently have two German Shepherds from this farm (age 4 and 2). They came into our lives after we lost our prior two shepherds (from the same farm) after 11 very happy years. In the last 18 years we have known Lisa (and John in the past), we have had 5 dogs from their farm and I would never look for another breeder. For every one of our dogs, Lisa showed us the parents, siblings and/or aunt of the puppy, we had access to the kennel and were able to see how happy the dogs are and how well she takes care of them. Lisa and John have always been there for us any time we had a question or an issue as new puppy owners. Even now, 18 years after we got our first puppy from them we still have times when we need to call for an advice or ask Lisa for a second opinion on things related to our dogs and she is always extremely responsive and very helpful. I highly recommend her if you are looking for a dog that will be a member of your family and not just for a “Christmas and/or Birthday gift” – like every responsible & knowledgeable breeder, she will be screening you and making sure she only sells her dogs to carrying homes.

I have known Lisa for many years and have helped her at the kennel many, many times. I am hands-on familiar with the condition of her dogs health and happiness. I can assure you that these dogs are quite happy, very healthy and very active. Her puppies and beautifully dispositioned as well as knock-outs to look at.Lisa is always willing to help with any training issues, health questions, food recommendations and generally share her wealth of knowledge.I would not hesitate to recommend this kennel for either boarding or purchasing a dog.

I echo many of the same sentiments. We purchased Kira in October 2011. Everything will be great for the first couple years. Our dog now has unbelievably poor teeth, and currently has an infection so bad (body can’t fight it off) that she will probably be on steroids the rest of her life.Furthermore, my wife and I made a trip back out there around 2012 to have Lisa take a look at kira for socialization issues with other dogs. We took Kira to petsmart classes and I worked very hard with her, and she was well trained. Lisa insulted my wife and I in front of a class that she was currently teaching. Also, Lisa gave us the wonderful advice to fill up holes with water (when our dog digs) and push her face in it so she feels like she’s drowning and won’t dig again. We love our dog, but we will never buy from here again. Our dog is rail thin (metabolism out of whack) which is probably why some poster above thought the dogs were emaciated upon their trip. Our dog has always had a full bowl of food available for 7 years. She eats one bowl a day, no more no less, but Could not gain any more than 62 lbs. now on the steroids she actually looks like the dog we should have receievd. she’s a little taller and out of proportion slightly. Unbelievably nervous, and initially very aggressive to other dogs. We worked with her so hard, it’s just engrained in her DNA. She is absolutely wonderful to every person and dog that she knows. It was our families first dog and my wife and I were newly married, young and the prices were enticing. My recommendation, save up a little more money and find a breeder that has higher quality dogs. I’d really like to know how the other dogs from the litter are doing. Kira was part of a litter born August 2011.

In 2009 my mother was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. As her dying gift to me and my newborn son, she paid $900 for a puppy from whistle down kennel. When my mom finally realized she couldn’t handle a dog at that time with chemo and a newborn in the house… She returned the puppy a few weeks later and we were promised we could come back and get our puppy. When I attempted to get the dog after my mom passed, I was denied. Yes its been many years, but some things don’t heal.

Lisa's knowledge of the German Shepherd Dog and their training is beyond excellent. We purchased our first German Shepherd from Whistledown 31 years agoand have never been disappointed. Lisa is a believer in breeding good temperament and health German Shepherds. She likes to follow her puppies and is ready to answer any question you have. We would highly recommend Whistledown to everyone.Al & Rosemary Embo

Lisa has been in business since 1969, experience is everything and it shows. Lisa specializes in the German Shepherd breed and is a true professional who is dedicated. Lisa offers a variety of obedience classes and she does NOT discriminate, yes most of the dogs are German Shepherds she breeds however, I have personally trained my dogs at Whistledown with different breeds as small as 10 lbs. Lisa's classes are strict and failure is not an option. The classes also include an extensive agility course with various types of fun things your dog will like. Whistledown is also a great boarding facility.
