I used to shop my groceries every weekend at this store. I enjoyed going there. It was close to my house and I could find everything in my grocery list. Never had a problem with the quality or the prices compared to other grocery stores. But I will never return back to that store after the customer service I received on a Friday evening. I was doing my shopping and had a basket placing my items inside. At some point, my basket filled up and I was further inside the store. I placed my basket down on the floor by my side while I was picking some items from the shelves in front of me. I run to the front of the store to get another basket. I came back to get my first filled basket and it was gone. I went to the cashiers area to speak with someone and there it was. An employee of the store was carrying it and was already emptying some of the items out. Even my two empty bags placed flat inside the basket were gone. I was kind of shocked because I did not leave that basket out of my sight for more than 5 minutes. The store employee was very rude, claimed that she did not know how long the items in the basket were out of the fridge and maybe they are all gone bad now. But she was putting them back. She never apologized, showed no remorse and no empathy at all. When I asked her how many items were taken out already she replied rudly that she does not know, does not care and said that it is my problem now to go and find them again. I was shocked and upset at this point looking at the basket contents to see what was missing. I complained that the customer service experience was not appreciated and she asked me to leave the store. Well I just wanted to finish my shopping knowing that I will never return again. I told her that she fails to understand that as a customer I am the reason she has a job, because if I do not shop at the store, there is no revenue, hence she does not have a paycheck. We exchanged a few more angry words at this point, she said that she would like to talk to me outside and she also said in a very hatred way that she hopes that the groceries I purchased make me sick and I die. I asked to see the manager and the response was that there were no manager around on a Friday evening. Another employee came by and asked what is happening and it was explained. He asked her to go to another part of the store. But no apology was offered to me. I proceeded to pay for my groceries and I found my bags left by the cashier's counter. It is amazing that three store employees witnessed these events and no one offered an apology to the customer. Do any of these employees receive any training on proper customer service? The first employee that had my basket made me feel that I was in some kind of altercation at a high school yard, rather than being treated professionally inside a business store. When you treat your customers with no respect and do not show any empathy most likely you will lose them. I will never return back to this store.

Bruno's Value Mart (now called Independent) is a small, local grocery store that has ebrything you need for dinner. From produce to deli to the butcher section. The bakery is small and has very limited options. The prices are similar to Highland Farms or Metro. In terms of customer service, they have poor customer service... half of the cashiers are not friendly. I would rate it a 2.5 out of 5 stars due to their service, but give a 3 for their selection.

Friendly staff, clean store. The prices are more expensive than the NoFrills or Superstore nearby but I find the deli/ready-to-eat meals and rotisserie quick and convenient to grab and go.

Could find imported products not available anywhere else in major grocery stores. They have excellent freshly baked pastries and the prices are very good.

I gaved this location a couple chances before deciding to write this review. This is a community vibe grocery store. All the employees are extremely friendly and treat you like family however I'm starting to think this could be a distraction technique.I grew up in this area so I've seen this grocery store change over time and I wish I could say it was for the better..[1]Fruits-Vegetables are soft and close to rotting[2]Fish/Seafood always next day expiry or not good quality.[3]Halal items are always passed due -expired- however they are still put out for customer's to buy?I just couldn't ignore it anymore so I spoke to the employees and let them know that the halal is expired! They apologized and immediately removed the expired items, which I appreciate greatly however this isn't the first time I've noticed this.I truly hope management will make all the right changes because the community does talk. [Quality doesn't match prices]
