This is a great little museum dedicated to a little known ship wreck back in 1873. A great ship of the White Star Line ran aground and sank just off the shore at Terrance Bay, NS.

A lovely last minute find. If you are in the area and you want a peaceful place to rest a bit, stroll on a boardwalk, take in the views of the bay, while also learning some very interesting history, I encourage you to stop here. The folks at the centre were super informative and friendly.

Hidden gem. Call ahead to ensure the Centre is open, sometimes their hours differ from posted. Small but packed with information and artifacts from the SS Atlantic. Amazing story of survival and rescue effort under treacherous winter sea conditions. Worth the visit as well as the surrounding park area.

Such a tragedy. Largest loss of lives in a wreck till the Titanic. And both vessels under the White Star flag. The site and the museum are very well taken care of and staffed. Will visit again.

Went there on my vacation to Nova Scotia and drove from Halifax it said it was open on the site and when I got there it was closed.... Saturday,Sept 10 is when I came by....I seen the path and the beautiful memorial bit more care is needed to tell people of opening times.

It is beyond belief that such a destination should be known to so few. What an incredible experience! The team, Courtney and Robert, led us back in time to that fateful night when the S.S. Atlantic sank right off the coast. They did not only give us a facinating tour of the artifacts there, but they also greatly added to the experience by sharing details of local, and sometimes family, lore. It makes absolutely no doubt that if a movie were made about the shipwreck, this beautiful Interpretation centre would get its fair due. Amazing staff, great exhibit, outstanding trails and unrivaled views of the bay, it is high time the world learned about the story of greed, ill fate, courage, humanity and tragedy that befell the S.S. Atlantic. You have got to go there!

I give a 4 only because we arrived 7/26 during operating hours per their facebook to find a closed" sign therefore we did not see the museum but we walk the very nice gravel trail to the monument. Lots of benches to take in the beautiful view.I would call ahead to be certain they are open."
