The Air Ontario Fokker F28 that crashed here on takeoff in 1989 - killing 24 people - was referenced by a previous reviewer in their 1 star review.This crash was caused by pilot error - ice buildup on the wings - and was in no, way a reflection of this airport or tower controler.The captain's decision not to de-ice the wings was the main contributing factor for this craah. His reason for not deicing was due to the plane not being able to be de-iced with one engine running. A non-working APU was central to the captain not being able to shut both engines.Even if the plane had been de-iced - Type 1 de-icing fluid and a long time gap between de-icing and takeoff would none the less have also hampered the plane's flight capability.
