Summerwood Village, an Optima Living community

Our parents moved into an Independent Unit at Summerwood Village in February 2019. Prior to moving in, the Lifestyle Director and other staff at Summerwood were very accommodating in inviting us to come to several events and meals at Summerwood Village in order that our parents could develop a comfort level with the move. They also accommodated our request for a specific type of unit and advised us when such units were becoming available. They also were very responsive and coordinated with us all of the details for moving Mom and Dad in. Although moving from your own home that you may have had for years into a Retirement Residence is of course a stressful time for many, they worked diligently to make the transition as comfortable and easy as possible for Mom & Dad.Once our parents moved in, we were so impressed with the care and concern - and yes even Love - that the staff gave to our parents. It was only a month and a half when the COVID-19 restrictions came into place and we are so grateful that our parents were settled into Summerwood and were receiving their care, meals, and recreational needs in a safe environment.We have been very involved with the staff at Summerwood, as our parents both have some dementia and need our help in managing things for them. Any concerns or enquiries that we have had are promptly responded to and the staff have always ensured that our questions are fully answered and concerns taken care of.The thing that has struck me the most, and that we are the MOST grateful for, is the genuine love and care that our parents receive from staff. While we aren't able to come inside to visit them during COVID restrictions, we have seen the love that is being extended to them by the staff. It is so reassuring to know that they may not be getting personal contact from us, but we know that they are 'feeling the love' anyways.Thank you, Summerwood Village for truly caring for your residents and their families!Cindy Westby, Keryl Davidson and Ken Waters

My mom has been at Summerwood Village since Sept 2019 and she loves it there. The accommodations are well suited for her, with a lovely balcony so she can have her garden pots full of flowers in the summer. The units are comfortable and well maintained.There are lots of social activities available for her to choose from daily and the dining room always has a variety of choices for meals that she can enjoy in her room or in the dining room.The staff are very kind and caring. The nursing staff very professional. I feel very comfortable with the level of care my mom is receiving and have tremendous peace of mind knowing she is in a great place.

I had to make the decision on behalf of my Aunt on which lodge she needed to go to, as she was in hospital and unable to even see where she was going to go. Since I am her caretaker, I wanted her to be closer to me, so I could support her better, and she was languishing in the lodge she chose for herself 6 months earlier. I checked the google reviews, I asked on social media, I wanted to be sure as possible, she would be happy. Part of the reason I chose Summerwood, was because they have a memory care unit, and I was SURE she would need to move into it within months, since she was declining so rapidly with her dementia.She has been at Summerwood for about a month now. My heart is bursting, and so is hers with HOW HAPPY SHE IS. I haven't seen her truly joyful in years. I keep telling everyone she is aging in reverse now. Her memory is SHARPER, she is HAPPIER, she is participating in EVERYTHING, whereas she was just sitting in her room in the old place and I was watching her fade.The staff listen. When I email, they respond. They make her feel comfortable and cared for. She loves the staff and is making friends. She tells me all the time she is exhausted because she is filling her days with activities. She tells me her body is sore sometimes, but it is a good sore" because she had fun.Yesterday they had a birthday party/halloween costume contest. She wanted to wear a costume and go

My mother began living in assisted living at Summerwood Village before Covid-19. We are happy having her live so close to us. John and all the staff are always professional and very helpful. They are constantly trying to accommodate our requests and they genuinely care about my mom there. The staff handled the Covid crisis professionally and I felt that my mom was in safe hands. I'd highly recommend Summerwood.

I worked with Summerwood Village Retirement Residence recently doing a workshop with them making floral arrangements. All the management and staff were very friendly and helpful. Shelley was especially involved with the setup and organization of the workshop. All the participants looked so happy and it was such a wonderful experience.

Do not be fooled by the current rating. The facility is plagued by incompetent management. Good people have either resigned or been fired. It suffers from staff shortages inferior service and rising cost. My particular concern is the dementia ward where my wife spent the last year before passing. If you are thinking of moving your family member to a dementia facility do not put Summerwood in your top three choices.

Our Dad has been happy at Summerwood. He has dementia and there are a couple of gems on staff who make an extra effort to support him and care for him. A big thanks to Shelley!

Summerwood is an amazing, caring facility. They immediately made my mom feel welcome and formed true connections with her throughout her stay. Shelley, Sharon and the rest of the staff are all rockstars who truly care about their residents. During Covid they did everything they could to ensure as safe an environment as possible and kept us up to date. Summerwood was a blessing for my family and would recommend anyone with a loved one who needs some daily living assistance to make them your first call!!!!

I cannot praise this facility enough! The staff are some of the kindest, most caring people I have ever met. It’s gives me great comfort to know that my sweet aunt has a ‘family’ there. I absolutely love hearing about the daily activities the residents participate in. They are fun and engaging, helping keep everyone content and stimulated. Nothing warms my heart more than seeing the pictures on Facebook of the residents who you can just tell, are genuinely happy. Thank you Summerwood, for providing these beautiful people with more than a just a place to live. Thank you for being a place for them to call home ♥️

I just want to say what a wonderful, caring, amazing and extraordinary Dianna is as a receptionist, as a person, as a co-worker. Her kindness and customer service is one of the best i've ever seen. I had the pleasure and blessing to work with her and i hope she continues to work at Summerwood making residents feel like home and families happy.
