Cayoosh Creek Recreational Panning Reserve
The Province of BC has designated public gold panning reserves and this is one of them at the confluence of Cayoosh Creek and the Fraser River.Very beautiful location with priceless views of the mountains and canyon walls.Try your luck working some of the old gold rush gravel beds. You can pan up to just south east of the Bridge of the Twenty-Three Camels to just under the Cayoosh Creek Highway 99 bridge. Stay on the North side of Cayoosh Creek. Access to the Gold Panning Reserve is through the campground. Day parking is allowed in the campground near the Fraser River access point but not in the camping spots. We found some nice colour in our pans after spending a very warm Saturday afternoon. Only work the gravel's top 2-4 inches because most of the deeper gold was worked by the miners of 1858 extensively. The gravel bar gets replenished with seasonal gold during the high river runs.
