From 1856 to 1860 the Legislature of the Colony of Vancouver Island met at Bachelor's Hall at Fort Victoria. From 1860 to 1898 it was housed in the first permanent building at Legislative Hall or Legislative Council Court, a two-storey wooden building along with four other buildings (Land Office, Colonial Office, Supreme Court, and Treasury) known colloquially as The Birdcages" because of their shape (burned 1957)."

A very informative visit/tour of the Parliament House at Victoria Island. The guided your is about 45 minutes starting at every hour. You are also free to visit on your own and see the Parliament house at anytime. It was very interesting to know about the history and details of the meetings and sessions. The staff were very friendly and informative.

Iconic place to visit in Victoria and learn about the history. Too bad when we go there is construction at the front of building which block the view little bit. On day time I believe there is guided tour too for visit inside. Building is gorgeous and have British style love the teal dome when at night it’s even more beautiful with whole building lights up.

Recommended!I was visiting Victoria while on a cruise and the Parliament House was on my list of places to visit. It did not cost anything to enter and I was able to take photos without a flash. I really enjoyed my visit and walked away with a plethora of information about the history of the parliament. In addition, I visited the gift shop and the gentleman there was a wealth of information. He was so kind, helpful, and answered all my questions. He knew so much history and details about the different objects and artifacts pictured/displayed. I was greatly impressed by him.

What a monumental building!!!I don't know how many photos we took...From every possible angle. The parks and the greenery around it, the fountains, statues, flowers, all kinds and colours!!! Actually whole this town was so cute,we felt like we were thrown back in time for some time. There is something really special about it and you can feel it in the air.Horse-drawn carriages running all around make this place look like it just came out of a fairy tale.

A stunning tour and wonderful experience. Having the opportunity to sit in the gallery and witnessing MLAs debating was indescribably amazing. I learned about the history of the building from the desginer of the Parliament building himself (a wonderful tourguide who roleplayed as Mr. Francis Rattenbury) and also had the opportunity to sit in Lisa Beare's chair! This was the most memorable day of my life :)

The art, artifacts, architecture, decor, and historic information are phenomenal. You can take the self-guided tour of the first floor (only) at any time, but I think the guided tour provides access to more places. We visited in June and arrived late morning. The next tour wasn't until 1:30 pm, so guided tours don't run continuously throughout the day. Well worth the visit!
