I am incredibly grateful for the exceptional care and support my husband received during his six-month stay at Bethany Calgary Long-Term Care Facility. The staff, particularly Mara, the service manager on the 2nd floor south, and Patience, overseeing the 8th floor, went above and beyond to ensure the well-being and comfort of the residents and their families. Their dedication and responsiveness were truly commendable.Mara was incredibly attentive and approachable. She took the time to address our concerns, provided detailed explanations of my husband's care plan, and kept us informed about any changes in his condition. Her open communication style made us feel involved and assured that was in capable hands. Patience exhibited remarkable patience and empathy when interacting with residents, including my husband. Her involvement and willingness to include us in decision-making processes were greatly appreciated. Before my husband went to Bethany, we were concerned after reading about their negative reviews. But our experience here has been mostly positive. I believe it's essential to consider the unique circumstances of long-term care facilities and the challenges they face. My heartfelt gratitude goes to Mara, Patience, and the entire staff for doing a great job. Thank you!

To all the staff on the 8th floor, thank you for taking care of my Grandmother Lileth, your hard work, care and compassion has not gone unnoticed. Primarly a special shout out to charge nurse Brenda Dyck who has personally given my Grandmother massage during her hours of work, random acts of kindness like these go a very long way.God Bless- Camilla

My husband was placed at the Bethany 27 April this was the last place I wanted him to be in 1998 his mum was placed there and it was not a very good experience less then 4 weeks she was transferred to another facility. Seems nothing has changed I have concerns for my husbands health that was not passed on it seems you have to wait two weeks to talk to the there doctor who does not like talking to patients relatives unless it’s something important . The social worker there who is supposed to help you through the system is not very professional all I wanted to do was talk to the doctor about my concerns for my husbands health but it took two weeks because lark of communication . Social worker likes to blurt out things like in front of everyone social services are going to take all my husband pension to pay for his care and leave me destitute and I would have to apply for benefits and this was said in front of 4 people .This is a company that no one should have to deal with with their loved ones fighting this deadly disease called dementia. .I cook most of my husbands meals as he won’t eat the meals prepared for him them there are gross I’m there every day from 4.30 pm till 9.00pm I wait for his pills to be given as I’m so scared he will be given the wrong medication so I check it every night the ward manager is a pice of work . I have no choice but to leave my husband here untilOur finances are sorted and he is tested to see what level of care he needs but who every reads this take it to heart there is so much animosity from the unit manager I feel it has to do because from England and she does not understand what I’m saying I did ask for an interpreter she laughed at me and said we are all immigrants still didn’t resolve anything and she does not understand my emails so I really do need an interpreterPlease people do not sign anything in haste .Christine

Bethany Calgary 2 SouthOur mother has been a resident at this facility for just over 3 years. Her first day as a resident at Bethany was Day 1" of lock down March 2020. Like most Care Facilities across the country there were many learning curves in dealing with our first severe Pandemic! I commend the long term staff at the Bethany Calgary for their commitment and dedication to the residents at this facility. The level of care has had some adjustments but over all it is very good. It takes team work and good communication from all staff and residents and family members of the residents. The food is very good and nutritional. The building is clean and maintained with updates to mechanical and renovations. One of the things I would like to see more of is "recreational games" for the residents. To watch them get so involved and become competitive is fun to watch. I look forward to more things happening at this Care Facility as long as our family member resides there. Thank you to the Staff and Administration of the Bethany."

Although the facility is very old, I was very impressed with the staff and how compassionate they were with my mother. Amandeep Sahota, the care manager on the 4th floor, was always around and answering our questions and concerns. The staff were very helpful and kind. Our special thanks to Jaspal Rahil, Sheila, Uma, Faney, and Fiona. They were the best. Mom misses them.

My mom recently spent two weeks here on Level 4, the Rehabilitation Unit. I can't say enough good things about the caring, friendly, helpful and compassionate staff, everyone from management/administration Amandeep, Marie, and Chyanne, to the social workers Lynn and Kelly to occupational therapist Laura to the nursing staff including Vanessa, Eimee and especially Fiona. (I'd list more but I didn't meet them all!) Yes, the building is older but then so is the Foothills Hospital. My mom enjoyed the food and was always in good spirits whenever I visited. The atrium is a lovely feature too.

Do not place a loved one on floor 2 south!!We had to put our mom in a transition home when we moved her from Ontario. This was possibly the worst choice we could have made. Her room was not ready on arrival; and it was dirty. She was placed with an aggressive roommate, who locked her out of the room, half naked. 3 bags of winter clothes were lost - we were told that that laundry form we signed clearly states they are not liable for lost clothes. Mom had a gaping 1” wound on her leg - no one knew how she got it . It took 2 weeks for proper bandages to be applied. The nail care service takes money, but more than once did not provide any care. Not once in 9 months did we meet with a care team - there is a revolving door of employees who never seem to know who is in charge, and disappear when asked for assistance. We did not ever receive updates on medication- found out by chance that they had put mom on sleeping pills so that she would not get up at night. (She is not a wanderer/ only goes to sit in the TV room). I could go in however we are thrilled to have been placed in a new home where there is respect, s caring attitude and dignity for the aged. I would not recommend Bethany Calgary for anyone.

The minute you walk in you are greeted with hellos and smiles. Almost everyone does what they can for you and your parent with all the healthcare limitations they all have to work under. The building is old and the rooms are small but the beautiful gardens make up for that. It is important to say please and thank you to all the workers that care for your aging parent. The 2 floor staff care for our Mom and are all very kind. Thank you to them and the desk nurse and Tayler and shandra. Shame on those comments of complaints but is sounds like a they problem and not a 2 floor problem.Thank you Calgary Bethany!!

The place you take your loved ones to shrivel up and die! We were told by the RockyView transition Nurse that we had to send our Mom here - or take her home, when she was classified as long term care. Why did we even put in our requests for placement when there are 100+ people ahead of her. She could walk, do her activities of daily living, and had a will to live until she went here. Staff are over worked and have 8+ full care per aide. She walked once! Went to the bathroom zero times. Dumped in a wheel chair for 4+ hours at meal time, so that she never wanted to go back. It is convenient to the staff to place everyone in attends and deal with them only 4 times a day. There is a lack of humanity, and only those that complain get noticed. My Mom’s end of life care was sad, and depressing - we as a family had to there 16 of every 24 hours for 2 weeks, to ensure she got basic care. Communication is lacking, and we will live with the guilt of allowing our Mom to be sent here to die.
