Holiday Inn & Suites Winnipeg-Downtown, an IHG Hotel

Poor experience from beginning to end. Doors were locked to the main entrance, with another guest waving us in after a couple minutes of being confused why a hotel was locked at 7pm. Front desk informed us that they have such a problem with vagrants and street walkers that a keycard has to be used at all hours just to get into the building.Wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if I didn't need to get our keycards changed 3 times over a 3 night stay. One receptionist said phones demagnetize the cards, while another said the card readers are old and dirty such that the custodian has to regularly clean them. Whichever excuse is the correct one I've never had such a difficult time with keycards, even in other Holiday Inns.Front desk was also suppose to inform us that breakfast vouchers needed to be gathered from front desk each morning for our complimentary breakfast, a matter that wasn't brought up till our 3rd morning there when the waiting staff brought up that they had never got the vouchers for the prior days.Other than that, small inconveniences. A shower that could only get about 5 minutes of hot water whether it was 9am or 9pm. The pool having no towels and needing to gather some from the adjacent workout space. The elevators getting stuck on a floor halfway up or down for a minute for seemingly no reason before resuming its journey a couple times.And then, just to put the cherry on top, we get bills $150 more than our original stay's invoice said it would be without anything notifying us of any extra charge.Just about the only thing giving this more than a 1 star is the staff. They were friendly, polite and seemed to be running around and working hard to make this place function, if only barely.

Hotel staff and security was very nice. Room felt like it had been cheaply, poorly renovated to hide falling apart fixtures. Hairs in the shower and ceiling tiles were crumbling and askew. Room hadn’t been cleaned thoroughly. Give your staff more time to clean them. Had to pay $20 to park one night in a garage that didn’t have access to the hotel. Would definitely never stay again.

Do yourself and find a nicer hotel by the airport! Questionable characters all around the front and in lobby cause they house addicts as informed by the front desk who gave a stark make sure you don't leave valuables in your car.. and if you feel uneasy and hope for a refund... not going to happen I can tell you first hand!

Room was clean, well air conditioned, and pillows were really comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful.That said, I would not stay here again since the fitness centre was useless and needs an update: it had no spin bike, the elliptical and one treadmill did not work. In-room coffee tasted like instant ramen; it was undrinkable.

It's a perfect place. The hotel staff is very friendly and attentive. Any questions or problems are solved instantly. I had a very positive experience.
