Pioneer Inn & RV park by the River

We slept well and had no issues. The operator has pride of ownership. Our bathroom was updated and the fridge, microwave and TV were new. The beds were comfortable and clean. You can walk through a campground across the road in a forest of amazing beautiful trees. The parking is great. This is not a photogenic property, but we just want a good sleep.

Great location, and the cleaning staff are super friendly. Our room was really musty and very outdated (peeling paint, mildew around the sink and toilet, stained sheets and blankets in the bedroom), which was a bit disappointing as we had to stay there for 8 days while we waited to move into our new home. We enjoyed the nearby trails, but likely wouldn't stay here again based on the condition of the rooms.

We have stayed at the Pioneer for decades on our fishing trips. Old motel but had its quaint appeal until the last few years. They have taken on long term government social assistance tenants on the upper floor and that is the issue. Middle of the night drug or alcohol induced domestic disputes at the wee small hours in the rooms above are the finishing touch. As much as we have family history of staying there for 40 + years, we cannot deal with this any more. Most rooms, they have put some effort into updating but that doesn't help when you can't sleep due to furniture being dragged around upstairs at 3 am with a vocal accompaniment of vulgarities being screamed by unbalanced social assistance tenants. It has become a pattern for the past few years. We can ignore the BBQ that works" if you just give it 5 hours to cook a steak on its flickering flame. We bring our own BBQ but can't deal with the socially unbalanced upstairs all night when we get up at 5am to go fishing."

I’d avoid if at all possible. The front person was quite friendly and the inn is in quite a quaint area, but holy. I’d really like to avoid coming here again. The price we paid did not warrant the condition even give the complimentary cookies we were offered at check-in.There was a persistent smell during our stay of old diapers. The scent had attempted to be covered up with what seemed like old spice, or something my grand parents used to smell of.I can see the owner has commented in other replies that this place is quite old. I agree. It needs desperate attention. Water stains on the roof. Barely working stove. The bathroom looked like the light fixture was from the 70s with carpet in the unit to match. My partner felt like we were on a scary episode of breaking bad.The beds had a comfortable feeling of hard cardboard. Cardboard that had been slept on for many decades and then made into a mattress.I’d really like to give this more stars.

Appears to be an older motel in the process of updating their rooms. Our room looks to be recently updated with new bathroom and fresh paint. Mattress was firm and area is quiet. Located just a few minutes drive outside of Port Hardy. Room was clean.

I've stayed at the Pioneer Inn a few times and it's a lovely spot! The owners are trying to fix the rooms up, one at a time and you can tell they care a lot about the property. I always stay here when I'm in the area and appreciate the full kitchen and space the rooms have to offer!

Whenever I am in Port Hardy for work, I stay at the Pioneer Inn. While it is dated, the owners are absolutely lovely and the rooms do the trick! I recently stayed in a room that had upgraded flooring, stove, and new paint. You can tell the owners are working towards improving the hotel. I always bring my dog with me, and it is such a dog friendly spot (trails near by, natural forest behind, ground floor entrance/exit, etc.). The full kitchen is so helpful when you’re travelling for work, and I’ve always found the bed super comfortable! Don’t get bogged down by the negative reviews, I’ve always enjoyed my stay here and will keep coming back! The cookies and complimentary coffee is always a nice touch.

Motel is in need of some updating but had everything we needed for out stay. Nice home base for our visit to San Josef Bay and other surrounding attractions. Owners were very nice, check in was easy. Our only complaint is that we found to beds very hard (we prefer a softer bed). Room included fridge, microwave, and dishes. Coin laundry available if needed, ice for sale. Lots of parking, overall pretty quiet. Allows pets, which was great as we were travelling with our large dog. Very convenient, short drive into town for anything you need. We would return again, but would bring our mattress pad next time ;)

If you have ever wanted to stay in the motel from schitt's creek, this is it. It was old, and needs updating, but we honestly had a pleasant stay. It's a five minute drive down the road from Port Hardy, and easy to find. Dog friendly.
