Karen has an incredible rapport with her clients. The shots are always perfectly done and most importantly she captures moments better than any other photographer that I have encountered. From portraits to live theatre, she gets it and also manage to make personal, lasting connections with each client which is not due to any skill other than her being a loveable, kind, compassionate and amazing person. From the beginning when planning your session, Karen & office manager Christine will go out of their way to both understand and create the session you are after. By asking questions and getting to know you, you will not be disappointed with your photos. The sessions are always fun, as Karen engages with you, your spouse, kids, and even pets to get the best photo possible. She has a great eye to catch the posed moments, but even better the candid moments, the real moments, the ones you really don't want to forget. I have been photographed by McKinnon Photography 6 times and each has held such a great memory for me. From my husbands and my 1st anniversary, a couple shoot 5 years later, my sisters wedding, a boudoir session, maternity session and then family photos with our newborn twins, McKinnon Photography has become a part of our family. We have used Karen a couple of times for getting head shots and group photos of us and our staff. Each time we went into it feeling a bit nervous and maybe some a bit self conscious but very soon Karen would work her magic and we would find ourselves relaxing and laughing along with her. She is an amazing photographer but also possesses the ability to truly capture the unique person buried within us.

Karen is absolutely amazing. My wife and I read reviews, checked websites, emailed all the photographers in the Comox Valley and we decided to go with Karen. She was quick to respond to our emails, answered all of our questions and chatted us up on the phone to get an idea of what we are looking for. Then, because of our careers in the military and Covid-19, we had to adjust our wedding plans several times. Karen was so kind to us and understanding of our situation. We lucked out and had fantastic weather for the season on our wedding day and Karen captured our day in the most natural and stunning ways possible. You could easily see her commitment to getting unique photos as she laid in mud, just to get the perfect shot.I suppose what I am trying to say, is if there is one thing you don't cheap out on for your wedding day, it's a good photographer. If you are serious about your marriage, you will want to capture all of those moments as they happen naturally and posed. All I can say, is Karen is worth everything and we are so happy to have met her and have her there to share our day.
