Chaplin Village Campground
It’s always rewarding to travel off the beaten track a little bit to discover well maintained and very affordable campgrounds on the edges of small prairie towns and villages and Chaplin’s is no exception.I’m not sure when the campground was upgraded but there are at least six fully serviced new sites with water, electricity and sewer connections. I think these little campgrounds that don’t require reservations are a godsend and a bit of a best kept secret. There’s a clean well kept pool within walking distance- there was a lifeguard on duty when I went by. It was pouring down or I would have tried it out. There’s water and a dump station for people who don’t need full service.PsIt’s located right next to an evaporite mine. Not sure what kind.

Only $5 for night without electric. Great location for overnight, camp at tree line. Flush toilets. Electric and Sami dump appears to be available. Next to sports field. It was very windy when I was there

Great little spot to spot for the night when driving through. Power hook ups and water to fill your tank. Can't find rates like that anywhere else. Pay is based on a honor system you leave the money in the little box.

For the price, five stars! Potable water, a flat parking spot, a dump station, shade and it looks like there is even a pool. $10 a night. $15 if you plug in. Close to the highway but fairly quiet (just a train horn now and again). We will stop here again. Well looked after.

We are traveling from Florida to Alaska. Stopped for the night at Chaplin Village, a small campground run by the town. It was exactly what we were looking for--a pull-through with full hookups at a reasonable rate. We don't need any amenities" when we are just passing through. Iron ranger takes the payment. The site was level and easy to get into. As a bonus

In the winter it's confusing, one gate is opened, the other closed, so we asked a neighbor and he said just drive in. Power was on and there were envelops in the letter box. So we thought it's opened. Then a half an hour later the owner came and said: Hey we're closed til May.So yeah, the campground is actually closed during winter season.

Some people left bad reviews because of the washroom/water and power situation. If you want to shower and plug in your phone ...go to a hotel!!There are spots that are cheap (5 or 10 dollars) without plugs. There is a gas station near by to refill water - otherwise smart campers always use a water filter. This camping spot was so curious to me, situated on the edge of small town Chaplin, right next to the salt factory. The open area made for a beautiful view of the sunset, an incredible night of stars, very few mosquitoes and in the morning, sunrise gleaming on the white salt mountains. The air smells a bit funny and it's right by a train - which could be perceived as bad but I appreciated that it's a real prairie experience. Good for a night or two :)
