Really wanted to find some snow gear at a local shop and not a big store. The young guys working were super helpful and found me a pair of snow pants. When we couldn’t find a jacket in my size they recommended another small business in Courtenay I was able to find a jacket at! Thankful for the help and the great recommendation.

Amazing shop and with Troy now at the helm its only going to get better! His long history in action sports and his all out youthful personality really helps connect him with his clients. You should hear him talk about all the new gear that comes out - like talking to a kid in a toy shop! Highly Recommend!

Great service. I had a small question about a board I ordered and they called me directly right away and dealt with my questions as great as I could expect. Would definitely recommend.

Awesome staff and great selection of mens shoes

The folks at this Board shop are absolute gems. Beyond helpful and always willing to give great advice and go that extra mile. Had a small problem with a piece of my equipment, the staff member went and checked if they had a replacement, found one, attached it lickety-split and charged me peanuts for it.This is the place to go on the island. No one else comes close.

Even if you’re a water sport punter like me, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They were super helpful as I bought a rash guard (which I’ll proudly wear while watching capable people surf). They have a great supply of both wheeled and water born boards, wet suits, beach supplies, and summer clothing. Sunglasses, shoes, and surf ponchos are also in stock (I can’t pull off a poncho, but I can hit life jacket fashion with nose zinc clean out of the water park). There’s plenty of parking in their lot, or Costco’s lot (depending on your level of comfort as a parking lot outlaw). This is a great little store that I love to support. If they add a taco stand, I’ll move in permanently.

Amazing shop with super helpful and friendly staff! I ordered a pair of bindings from Burnaby and ran into some issue. I called the store and the staff were very helpful and responsive. Wish I live in Nanaimo so I could shop in-person :D

When I entered the store I was greeted by several staff. One lovely young gentleman ended up helping me. I was looking for a very specific item but unfortunately they were sold out. But the clerk made many helpful suggestions including checking out other stores. I wasn’t able to buy what I wanted but the staff was amazing and super helpful. I will be going back. Highly recommend this store for excellent customer service!!

I had an issue with board servicing. Owner Troy made it right and went extra mile to ensure my satisfaction. Great customer service. Still a staple of Nanaimo board culture. Go see the crew at Alternative Groove if your in the Harbour City and on your way to surf, snow or skatepark.
