WRD Cottage Rental Agency

We recieved good communication from the rental agency. Kept us well informed. They offer many great priced cottages for rent. No complaints. Great to deal with. Will definitely be booking with them again.

Renters BEWARE! This agency requires renters to provide their home insurance policy number in order to approve the rental application. This is on top of the requested security deposit, the complete credit card information (including signature and CVV) and driver's license number. There is no mention about the insurance policy requirement on the website, you only find out when you are sent the rental contract. There is no waiver, or any form of written reassurance that a false claim will not be submitted using the renters' home insurance policy. In other words, there is no guarantee that if anything happens to the premises AFTER you leave the cottage in perfect condition, a claim will not be submitted against your insurance policy.

After thoroughly cleaning the rental property, my family incurred a $100+ fee from the agency; they forwarded an email from the owners:“…We remade the beds as they were on the messy side, when doing this we discovered the mattress where [sic] dirty with hair—we ended up washing the mattress pads.”It’s clear from this account that remaking the beds is unusual practice for the owners, which is distressing as it suggests they do not wash the duvet covers provided between guests (there is no washer/dryer onsite, no cleaning directions left for guests). We brought our own flat and fitted sheets. I don’t doubt that we may have left a few hairs behind. It’s a ridiculous charge that actually demonstrates the low cleaning habits on part of the owner.The agency did nothing to verify the owner’s claim and sent us this punitive charge. Other infractions included mugs on the wrong cupboard shelf, etc.Moving forward, the agency should be required to confirm owner’s allegations.

This is such a straight forward and honest company. I've used them 3 times so far and have had a great experience each time. Once I almost rented a cottage where there was a road between the building and the lake, and I didn't notice, the company called me before confirming the booking to make sure I knew that so wasnt disappointed. I recommend them to anyone I know who wants to rent a cottage in ontario.

So disappointed with this agency. I left 3 voicemails, a verbal message with secretary and 2 emails. Did not receive a response for more then 2days, then realized the cottage we had planned to book was no longer available. Now not able to find any available cottage for our summer holidays.So careless with their potential customers,Sam

It's nice to have peace of mind for a rental. And overall it's a decent service.I did take exception with a few things that were incredibly heavy handed.When we left, we cleaned and I took pictures. Yet they erroneously claimed the washrooms weren't cleaned, and I was the last one out.They also claimed we took something that was clearly visible in my departure photos.They pushed back check ins due to alleged covid deep cleanings between visitors. If that was truly the case, why the claim over a washroom that they were allegedly going to deep clean anyway? Again, I had photos.And again, if the cottage was to be deep cleaned, it would have been impossible for them to miss this giant item left out in the open, that they claim we took, and was clearly in my departure images.They claimed we didn't put one item away. I left it open to prevent potential mold after washing. It was right beside where we found it, yet clean, and neatly ready to be used (though again, allegedly deep cleaned?)This was very disappointing after an otherwise relaxing weekend.And while I would still recommend this agency, I HIGHLY recommend the renter takes many time indexed entry and departure images.AND immediately report ANY issue, including odd smells or rodents, to the agency. If you wait until after the fact, those odd smells can be attributed to you not having cleaned.

WRD looks after two cottages for the in-laws and they have nothing but great things to say about the program. Looking forward to joining soon. *Update, doesn't look like we'll be joining. This company is only interested in renting cottages on lakes, Sean said he would check with his dad and call us back. Phone call never received. On to Air BNB it seems to be for us.

I have updated my review to reflect my current experience. After my previous comments about my frustrations, I was contacted promptly by Sean. Sean and my assigned vacation planner have been helpful in finding our family a cottage to rent this year.I would recommend this service- just be aware that the availability on the site calendars is not always accurate. I wish they had an additional colour coding/signal to allow viewers to see if some already have tentative bookings so they can be aware they may need to look at different options.That being said, it is helpful that all the cottages are described in detail with any amenities and features clearly photographed . They are priced reasonably and affordably so that families can enjoy a vacation without having to pay the ridiculous prices you see on other short term rental booking applications. We are looking forward to this summer.

Staff are friendly and so knowledgeable for both cottage owners and renters. It's so nice to call a company and a human answers direct! Wide range of solid-priced cottages for everyone's budget. Wouldn't go anywhere else!
