I had gotten 6 bids for a new deck. This was 1 of 2 companies that actually gave a detailed bid and drew out a plan for us as to what it would look like, made changes with us as we saw the plan they drew out for us. They were also the only company that showed up with samples of all three types of decking composites we could choose, plus examples of all colors, and talked with us extensively as to reasons for using one over the other.Other companies referred us to a website or showed us 1 or 2 Color choices they would have for us to use and get it built.We did have to wait 3 months to get it built but this was 1 month earlier than they thought it would be built. So that was a really welcome surprise - having it by end of Summer vs. end of Fall.Since I have to work remotely at home for the foreseeable future, I also worried about noise coming into house while I was on work phone calls and meetings. However, the worker crew were quiet, good-natured guys and cleaned up bf they left every night.I have had to do a lot of weird repair projects on my house — this was one of the best experiences I have had — with the company doing what they said they would when they said they would. I didn’t have to become the project manager to the contractor like I have had to with other companies for other major repairs or replacements of stuff on my house at all.My husband is an engineer and looked over every night the structure as it was being built. He joked with me that if there was a tornado in our area - the only thing probably still standing would be the tank of a deck structure and the chilton limestone car size boulders the deck stairs land on.They are busy and booked out a ways. But that’s because they are good. If a deck company doesn’t have business and isn’t booked or doesn’t want to spend time with you with your pre-deck building planning process — you should wonder why they are not. And if they can’t cough up a drawing of what they are building that supports the square footage you are buying, DO NOT use them.Too bad TOP SHELF Decks only does decks — bc I’d probably use them for other things I have to do in next few years too — if I could.

Top Shelf just completed a re-skin of our aging 18x16 deck. Dustan and his team stripped the deck down to bare frame and built it back with Trex spiced rum premium decking and custom dark bronze railing. We could not be happier with the end product. The deck looks amazing and will last us for years to come!

We had a deck built and a front porch resurfaced. The work quality was excellent. They communicated timelines, that were changed due to materials not being available. The material shortages was certainly not the builders fault. They kept me informed and once the materials were delivered, they were here the next day to start the job. We are thrilled with the work that was done, the professional attitude, and the cleanup after the work was done. I would suggest or call them again.

My experience with Topshelf Deck was great! I have a deck on my house that was built by the previous owners (not Topshelf). The deck is starting to weather and I had some questions about the structural integrity.Ted came out and spent 45 minutes with me, walked through all my concerns and gave me advice on how I'd be able to sure things up. He was knowledgeable, professional and really great to talk with.If I ever end up replacing my current deck, I will definitely go with Topshelf.

Amazing quality in all aspects of the deck and the staff truly are dedicated to providing the best service and outcome available. Definitely enjoying having a high quality deck that can be enjoyed year round.

Working with TopShelf Design and Minneapolis Decks was a rare OUTSTANDING experience! Working in Minnesota during the early spring can be quite challenging and not for the fair weather contractor. Dustan, Brandon, and Eric were at our house by 7:30 every morning ready to work, no matter the weather or working conditions, even Including in blizzard conditions. Alex answered emails typically within a few minutes, worst case scenario in a few hours. This dedication carried through to their meticulous care of our home and property. The work was not only work technically outstanding, but the framing and finishing details passed the shrewd eye and inspection of my father who is a mechanical engineer. Dustan and Alex deserve to be commended for the respectful and professional way that they handle themselves on a daily basis. Not only is this difficult to find, it is a distinct pleasure to have shared in building a complex large deck with them. The site was cleaned every day, there was no trash left ever. The communication was remarkable. In my everyday profession, communication is an under appreciated skill and these guys have it mastered.Having some experience in building and remodeling, it was a fun and educational experience to learn from everyone on our project. Due to the current events, I was able to be home far more than normal. While most contractors would have found it annoying or challenging to have to converse with and answer homeowner questions, our team made every effort to make sure I understood what was happening and why. They also listened to concerns and any technical issues (of which there were virtually none that hadn't been anticipated in the planning stages) were resolved in a mutually agreeable manner. Alex, Dustan, Brandon, and Eric stopped to say hello to our two four year old children every day, answer their questions, and even taught them how to read a tape measure at one point. Not only was that fun for me as a parent, it made me feel connected to the team working at our home.We interviewed several deck design and build teams and decided to put our trust in Minneapolis Decks and Top Shelf. I read all of the reviews online and even thought they must be too good to be true. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised to find that not only were the reviews true, but they even undersold how good these guys really are.Normally, I do not spend a lot of time writing reviews. Most of the projects we've done over the years have been ok, but not great. My expectations with others were rarely met, far less exceeded. With Alex and Dustan, this review doesn't even being to describe HOW FAR BEYOND MY EXPECTATIONS they went. We had a truly great experience as a family and we will send all of our friends and family their way whenever possible.Minneapolis Decks and Top Shelf Design & Construction have my highest and most enthusiastic recommendation. You will not be disappointed and I hope that you choose to work with this team. You won't regret it and will be glad you did.

They are professional in every way and they created a beautiful deck and front porch for our home. They did the work in winter which didn't stop them from packing quality into every phase of the project.
