About the Business

iSLAS FILIPINO BBQ & BAR | HOME | The Philippines is an island archipelago country in Southeast Asia consisting of 7,641 islands. There are multiple ethnicities and cultures found throughout the islands and the cuisine has been influenced by this diverse mix of cultures. Filipino cooking has evolved over many centuries originating from Austronesian roots to a mix of Malays, Chinese, Spanish, American and indigenous influences. The cuisine centres on the combination of sweet, sour, and salty flavours mainly, however in the regions of Bicol, the Cordilleras and among Muslim Filipinos, spicy flavours form the base of most dishes. Vinegar is a common ingredient. Adobo (vinegar-based meat dish) is popular not solely for its simplicity and ease of preparation, but also for its ability to be stored for days without spoiling and improving in taste after a day or two. Rice is another Filipino staple served with meat, fish, stews, soup-based mains and vegetable dishes. Cooking and eating in the Philippines has traditionally been an informal and communal affair centred on the family kitchen. Filipinos traditionally eat three main meals a day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner and often an afternoon snack called meriénda. Unlike many of their Asian counterparts, Filipinos do not eat with chopsticks. Due to Western influence, food is often eaten using flatware—forks, knives, spoons—but the primary utensils typically used at a Filipino dining table is that of spoon and fork. Some say that Filipinos can cut anything with a spoon and fork, no knives needed! Another traditional way of eating is with the hands, especially dishes that are grilled or fried. The diner will take a bite of the main dish, and then eat rice pressed together with his/her fingers. This practice is known as

Great food and service! The BBQ pork skewers were moist and had a nice char, good balance of sweet and savory. Kare Kare and pork belly were very delicious as well.

Cordial service. Awesome food and ambience. I grew up on Filipino food and I have to say their food is delicious. I recommend the Lumpia (Spring rolls), Sisig, Pork BBQ and Halo Halo. The Boracay Rainbow cocktail was superb but I docked 1 star for getting my order of appetizer wrong.

Beautifully-decorated, this Filipino restaurant in Toronto city is truly a must-visit for those who love Filipino food or if you’ve never tried Filipino food. With friendly, efficient staff and a very welcoming and neighbourly atmosphere, it’s easy to see why Islas Filipino is so highly rated. The attention to detail when they did up the place is evident, from the baybayin on the wall ant the retro style Filipino stamp portraits on the wall, showcasing some of the most iconic places in the Philippines. We ordered sisig and oysters to start and both were outstanding. The oysters were very flavourful and succulent. The sisig was very very good, and that’s coming from someone who never really enjoyed sisig before trying the one made by Islas Filipino! For our mains, we ordered the Bicol-inspired chicken adobo and chicken barbecue and both were phenomenal. We were extremely happy with Islas Filipino in Toronto and I highly recommend them!

Loved the Budol Special. Food tasted great and portions were awesome. I liked how they serve it on a banana leaf to give that authentic feel.Everything was perfect but the store just had too many flies around by the front while we were there so we had to keep swatting them away while we ate.I would definitely come back though and I recommend to give them a try! :)

Enjoyed trying out the Filipino food here with a friend. The Sisig arrived to the table sizzling, on a hot plate and nicely complemented the Filipino beer. I thought the Pork BBQ was reasonable, but wasn't on par with the Sisig. The atmosphere was good, and I found the server great as well. Well worth a visit!

We came to an empty place on a late Thursday night and still were welcomed with a good service! The food is delicious. We tried their chicken bbq and their pancit noodles. Both were so good. Loved the flavours!! For dessert we tried their halo halo. And oh boy the ice cream was one of the best I’ve eaten. It had coconut shavings on the top which gave the perfect crunch. Overall we had a great experience here! Definitely recommend this place!!

Ordered the Tasting menu for 2 and it was delicious. Had a variety of items from the menu, all of which were amazing. Our server was so friendly and spent time explaining the meal to us. For the dessert, we had the Halo Halo and can I just say yum!!!The tasting meal for 2 would definitely work for 3 or even 4 with an additional item or two. This place is a must-try.

3.3/5If you’re looking for authentic and flavourful Filipino food, this may not be your place… The food is decent but didn’t exactly hit the spot for us.The restaurant faces King St W. with sliding glass doors that can be opened, so it has a nice patio feel when the weather’s nice out. Unfortunately, the flies were incestuous which gave us a bit of concern…We tried the Lumpia as an appetizer, which was hot and crisp. For mains, we ordered the Seafood Bicol, the Pancit, and the Lomi. These were not bad but also nothing particularly memorable. It lacked the rustic touch that gives these dishes an elevated taste.I would recommend going to one of the BBQ restaurants in Little Manila if you’re looking for scrumptious food that makes you come back for more. Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but I found this place a bit underwhelming, unfortunately.

My family and I are visiting from LA and knew we had to stop by iSLAS after seeing it here on Maps.We ordered the kare kare price fixe (which includes an appetizer, entree, and dessert), lumpia, sisig, pork bbq skewers, pancit, and halo halo. Everything was delicious, especially the pork bbq, which was extra saucy and flavorful. My favorite was the sisig, it arrived sizzling and was the right amount of tangy, savory, and even had a bit of a kick from the peppers. The staff were extremely friendly and suggested us places to visit/things to do during our stay in Toronto. We even got to meet Chef Mark! The place itself is really aesthetic/modern, with cool Filipino decorations/posters. Parking on the street is easy. We had a great experience here and would definitely recommend iSLAS to anyone visiting Toronto.
