When parents are separated the school has a moral obligation to remain neutral and definitely not send the message that one parent is better than the other parent. That is not acting in the best interest of a child. Unfortunately my experience and observation of the staff of this school sent a clear message that Mom and Dad we're not treated equally. Perhaps the staff could treat both parents equally and remain neutral when there are issues, and adhere to there own policies, for instance any court orders regarding guardianship are required but in actual practice they don't, one parents word is good enough. Both parents should be required to sign registration and any other forms for this school regarding a their child. There teaching method is outdated to provincial standards, they still practice rote learning (repetition), which contradicts the BC curriculum which is inquiry based.

Thank you for your consideration and review of our preschool. We acknowledge your comment and this is also other parents’ concerns. We would like to take this chance to express our vision and future plans for our school. The reason we like Brainbridge is because of the environment in this school and the ways of teaching. What makes us special is that we have our own curriculum and we do not plan on changing it. Our policies, teachers, and ways of teaching will stay the same. However, we have noticed that there are things our students can improve on such as the amount of interaction and communication the children have with each other. Thus, “play-based” is not our goal and it will not be the way of our teaching. We believe that the bilingual aspect of our preschool is important to our children, especially in Canada. This is why we insist on preserving this and keeping this our tradition.Regarding our summer program, we admit it is different from our regular Preschool Program. With over 10 months of learning, we feel that this is a good opportunity for our students to treat this as sort of a break. Moreover, we want to create happy and memorable moments for them at this school prior to their upcoming journey. We understand why parents would think that we changed the system of teaching at Brainbridge and we apologize for this confusion and what our intention was.

UPDATED JULY 2022: New owners and new teachers. Still 5 stars for the great teachers and new owners, but one thing to acknowledge is that the program is now play based and no longer the same education/learning based it seems. Previously they did bilingual/trilingual learning but I’m not sure if this will stay the same in September. My kiddo still loves attending here but I personally would’ve preferred learning based as that was what attracted me to Brainbridge initially, as well as teaching of multiple languages and learning Chinese customs and culture. Now that there are new owners, I recommend asking what the program will be like in the full time school year because the summer program has been mostly play and the homework is mostly drawing (in contrast, previously the homework was practicing math/writing/reading).Such a great program, and very caring teachers! Owner is sweet and she’s put together a great program full of activities (art, music, home economics even!) but my favourite part is that Brainbridge teaches their students their chinese history and culture. They do this both through stories, songs, dances, and much more. I’m so impressed, high recommended. Thankful for Teacher May, Joyce, Jessica and Jenny for their love, kindness and education based teachings.
