TL;DR: Had to get a custom part machined to get a camera stabilizer to work properly with a heavier camera setup. They killed it.Long story short is that to mount a heavier (and also top-heavy) camera rig onto the stabilizer, I either needed to add weight lower onto the carriage, or make the tilt bars longer to allow the carriage itself to sit lower. I initially wanted to have the secondary pieces threaded so I could take them on and off as I saw fit, but for lighter setups we usually use different stabilizers. Dan had suggested machining a shoulder on the aluminum tube, and then using epoxy to stick it inside of the other one for a flush fit. The finished product sits flush with the other part of the tilt bar, and allows for the carriage to sit more than and inch and a half lower, which allows the centre of gravity to also sit lower, allowing for the top-heavy RED setup that we mostly use.The turnaround time was fantastic, as was the quality, and the price. If you are looking for anything to be machined, I definitely suggest Smith Industries, and will be taking a ton more projects we have in mind back to them.

Very poor service, I get the minimum shop fee, but I talked to one of the guys and he said he could get a simple task done that would take half hour, said he could possibly get it done by the apprentice and charge me less, said to leave them and they would call me once he talked to the boss, no one called. I called, was put on hold for 10 minutes to get a response from what I assume was the boss and he just said no, minimum shop fee. Honestly don’t waste your time with this place, I just gave them a shot because they were close to my house.
